The Impressions for me. Never heard the song before though. It reminds me of this song by The Violinaires which was released a few years later:

I prefer Curtis´s solo version on his own album over any other version.

It was really cool when Prince started some of his aftershows during the Gold era with a brief version of this song....just the first few lines as an intro. I wish he had done a longer rendition.

Maybe Count the Days was inspired by this? But I´m just speculating here.
