He's one of our greatest singers ever, his songs are amazing, he was an amazing performer, he was...are we actually debating this??

I know he was great but many talk about him like he the end all be all of music.
Personally I would rate both MJ and Prince higher up than elvis

Just ignore all the talk and all the bullshit, and enjoy the greatness of his talent. That’s what I do.
And says Elvis was great doesn’t mean that other artists were not great as well

With one or two exceptions (mainly “Jailhouse Rock” and “Viva Las Vegas “, and the documentaries), I have no use for most Elvis movies

Did he “share his bed” with any of them ? If you’re a “grown ass”, I doubt that Michael would have been very interested in you.... My view is that MJ was one of the greatest talents in the history of music and show business. I also think that he most likely was a degenerate and pervert with a sick desire for children. I’ll leave with a joke: Q: Why did Michael Jackson race into the department store? A: Because he saw a sign in the window saying “Today only ! All boys pants- HALF OFF ! “
The answer to your sick perverted question is yes, he did SHARE his BEDROOM Suite(a two story, 3 bath, 2 bed, gameroom) with grownups like Elizabeth Taylor , Carrie Fisher, etc. There are photos with grownups in the bedroom suite and LOTS of children. There are even photos of the fake accusers AND their Mamas SHARING Michael’s Bedroom suite. There are also interviews of Wade’s mama saying even she would be in his suite and they would all be watching TV and playing games on the bed. There is also an interview of the fake accuser Wade’s sister, Chantel saying that while Wade was in the room, she was right there in the same room. Of course, your ignorant and perverted ass wouldn’t know thst because you have pedophilic FANTASIES. In other words, you are one of those degenerates who fantacize about adults and children having sex to suit your own sick desires.Only a sad, sick bastard equates being around children with sex. FTR, I would never leave a child around you for that very reason.According to YOUR beliefs and thoughts, being around children automatically means that you will have sex with them and that is SCARY. Btw, I don’t want to hear a single person claim that an MJ fan brought this $#@% up, because we didn’t. A sick SOB brought it up in THIS thread and it had nothing to do with music. Your speculations and feelings mean $hit in a court of law.Every, and I mean EVERY fake allegation was proven to be a lie through depositions, documents, timelines, non-existent places, etc. That is the very reason why THREE judges threw these latest fake allegations, extortion attempts and scams out of court. Btw, don’t bring up this bullshit, if you don’t want a response. You and others like you are a special kind of ignorance. Either be ready to back up your FEELINGS and speculations or shut the hell up. What you brought up was ignorant, CHILDISH and tabloidish. YOU got this thread off track and soon you will LIE and blame someone else. TYPICAL!! [Edited 10/12/21 23:55pm] [Edited 10/13/21 0:24am]

I have an odd sort of respect for people who continue to attempt to blindly defend MJ, rather than admit (probably to themselves) that, at best, something wasn't quite right there.

I have even more respect for people who defend a person with FACTS and not just feelings. To be able to prove every single lie and manipulation with evidence is rewarding. Knowing that that evidence would win in any court of law is even better. Thank God intelligent people are doing their research and finding out that these people were NOT victims, they are scam artists, liars and extortionists, in other words criminals. Recently three judges must have agreed with that assessment and thrown out the bogus 100 million dollar lawsuits aka extortion. It feels great to know that the person you are defending is 100% INNOCENT because of the EVIDENCE.Speculations, rumors innuendo means nothing in a court of law. My respect and admiration for Michael Jackson has grown even more over the last few years.😎💯

This is what I and millions of other MJ fans are speaking of. Ignorance, misinformation, being media manipulated. NONE of the fake acccusers spent the night alone with Michael. The PARENTS and/or siblings were always there. When Robson claimed he had been molested hundreds of times, the FACT(backed up by court documents, depositions and his mama’s interview on radio), the FAMILY(never Wade alone) was at Neverland only 14 times and Michael was only there FOUR times. This is from the mouth of his mama. Again, these CHILDREN were ALWAYS at Michael’s home with their mama or families. You people have have been so manipulated by lies, that you are brain dead. What I am saying is not just a fan defending an INNOCENT man, it’s the FACTS, and that’s the bottomline. Not your jealousy or dislike of Michael. There is no excuse for being stupid and ignorant, when the FACTS/Evidence is there for everyone to see and read.

Finally, YES I would allow my child to spend time at Neverland because I would be there, just as all of the other Mothers were there with their children. BUT, I wouldn’t trust YOU or any of the other sick people who equate being around a child with sex, around any child of mine. Michael never INVITED any child in his room.A person would have to be the dumbest fuck ever to think that Michael would molest a child with the families in the same room, next door or in a guest house, with security cameras, dozens and dozens of guards, housekeepers and the WORLD basically watching you.YOU people make a mockery of the education system. Surely, you can’t be THAT dumb and stupid!🤔

How the fuck can you be molested hundreds of times, when the person you acccused was only around FOUR of those times, and you didn’t even see him all of those times. The 2003 fake accuser Gavin Arvizzo also complained that Michael was never at Neverland. He testified to this in court. Is there any wonder that a jury found Michael INNOCENT when you hear the acccuser complain that Michael was never there? You people have have been so manipulated by lies, that you are brain dead. You people have ZERO common sense, You people have NO deductive reasoning skills. About the whining and complaining...

And If we all could just use more polite words or ways of expression (and that goes for me too!) - which always are stronger in their meaning by the way - then this place would be a better place to die/lie/guess or be opinionated. wink

The use of whatever words are OK, it's just about the context how you bring it, and the respect you show. No one has to agree with anything. Just don't shove it in anyone's throat as truth.

Sure everyone understand what i mean.

Most of us here are over 40, i dare to say over 45 yo, so... show some adult respect and resposibility instead of personality.

Don't forget we all are 90% water, basically like cucumbers, but with anxiety. wink))

Now keep that anxiety in control for the sake of this place.

-

And no, Elvis has never been ''over-rated''.

I even dare to say that without Elvis' influence, there would be little or less of the pop/funk/rock we so much love today - or at least be very very different.

The question was irrelvant inthe first place tbh.

You don't ask if Nina Simone or Ella Fitzgerald or Aretha Franklin are ''over-rated'' either.

At least in my humble opinion.

I'm not an elvis fan per sé, but I do recognize the guy's talent and influence on pop and rockmusic in genral.

Did you actually ever listened to a whole Elvis record (any of his 57 officialy released albums) from beginning to end ?

I recommend you to begin with the very beginning if you're interested...

And i'm not talking about just 'songs' you know from radio etc.

A whole album.

Then come back for another foolish remark.

I love Elvis. It's not that deep. Either the voice and image resonates with you, or it doesn't. No reason to make sweeping statements about the sum total of his parts, or judge him by standards set up since he passed away.

I'm trying to get back into Michael, but it's hard. The lyrics call to mind the accusations themselves. I tell myeslf I don't know what for sure happened, but the music itself almost invites suspicion. I miss listening, though.

On a side note, I just stumbled on MJ's grave. It turns out my great grandfather is interred right around the corner from him. I had no idea, but there he was. It's a nice spot, for sure, but strange to see.

The way you put it, I fully agree on that (the judgements on standards set up after his death...)

-

Concerning Michael Jackson...

Even when Michael was still alive, I believe he was the target of all sorts of attacks very early on.

Obviously a guy with so much money and attention was an easy target to attack, even to take advantage of. At least that's my opinion still.

His being and approach of things was somewhat childish, naive even, imho.

An easy victim to bash, always fully in the spotlights. Somhow self responsible for his own created mysteries too.

His songs about his macho behaviour towards women I always found a bit off the hook, played even.

But I never thought of Michael as a gay or pedofile, not even after his death. I found it all hard to believe, still. I won't deny it either. It just isn't up to me to judge anything.

Obviously if there are true victims, justice is much needed in all serenity. The public has no right to judge whatever on any basis.

Still, I found all these accusations so hard to believe because of the whole of the complete story of Michael's life.

From all that we had served concerning pre and post allegations, (public) convictions, etc, I never sort of went with it. And I'm not even a Michael Jackson fan.

For me it's easy to separate the quality of the music from all these stories.

Like i said earlier in another thread; then we could never ever again look at Caravaggio's paintings, a horrible murderer himself. Or even listen to Rick James' music... etc.

For me it does not detract from the immense quality and strength of Michael's entire musical oeuvre.

Of course the events will oviously be present somewhere if you like it or not, but they do not take over, at least not for me.

Another thing, I never cared much for his performances, too much geared towards young teens.

But I won't deny that he evidently was a great (stage and video) performer.

-

And waw, what an intriguing story about your great-grandfather's grave... strange indeed.

My grandpa would be pissed if he knew I was posting this thread.Being that he is as crazy over Elvis as I am of Prince
I realize that Elvis is called the king of rock n roll.He had a amazing voice.
But the other day while doing research I found a list of all of Elvis'songs and unless i missed it,none of the songs were written entirely by Elvis himself
I don't think he played a instrument either.I have seen him onstage with a guitar but do not remember him playing it
It's only because of elvis amazing voice, that i don't put him in the same category as justin bieber
Maybe i am wrong but is Elvis over rated and not as great as most say he is?

Very Overrated.

As a singer, I would rate Elvis 10 out of 10. His only true peers in post 1955 popular music in terms of vocal talent are Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and perhaps Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye. As for writing songs, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett and Dionne Warwick and Whitney Houston and Patsy Cline and Barbra Streisand wrote very little if any as well. Even with Aretha, the majority of her greatest performances were of songs written by other people.

I was actually surprised at how great his voice was. I always thought he was mediocre, until I heard his version of unchained melody.....well, his voice was actually amazing.

And consider this: that version of “Unchained Melody “ was recorded about a month before he died ! Fat, bloated, sick.... and still singing his ass off !!!

The problem with Elvis is that the image and the political have taken attention away from the artistry

The last part is very true

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

After viewing the 1968 comeback special tonight on YouTube, I admit Elvis is greater than I thought he was.
Great voice,can dance,and play guitar
Just a shame he didn't write his own music but now I don't think he over rated

It was uncommon for popular singers of that era and before to self write. People say that Elvis "stole" Hound Dog from Big Mama Thornton. She didn't write it either, she just recorded it first. Sam Cooke wrote a lot of his singles, but he also released entire albums of showtunes & standards. His albums generally did not have his pop hits on them, except when they were compiled into a Greatest Hits or a live album. It was common during that time to release non-album singles. A lot of acts never had albums at all. In some cases if a single became a big hit, a album was quickly recorded around it, like Chubby Checker's The Twist. Sam was trying to get into the Copacabana. Berry Gordy later also got his most popular acts there and they also recorded showtunes.

Also it was Rolling Stone magazine who primarily started the idea of artists writing their own music as being important in the late 1960s. That was post Beatles & Bob Dylan. Pre-British Invasion, the audience did not care if Doris Day or Perry Como wrote songs or not. There were usually non-performing songwriters who wrote the songs that were radio or jukebox hit. Notice that still today, Rolling Stone will give self-writing acts more importance over non-writers like a Whitney Houston. Like with Motown, the records Stevie Wonder & Marvin Gaye did in the 1970s are rated higher by RS than the ones from the 1960s which were mostly writen by the Motown staff writers or remakes.

There is a wine called Purple Rain for sale at my local Walmart
I guess the estate is unaware?
I am tempted to try it even though I am no longer a raging alcoholic
