Tina Turner’s Music Interests Acquired by BMG

By way of Lindsey, Crosby, et al, Tina Turner has sold her music interests. Seems a lot of older artists are doing this, as a way of having money in the end (not that Tina is hurting; she has a successful documentary and Broadway musical out right now).

Variety

BMG, the world’s fourth biggest music company, announced Tuesday it has bought a portfolio of rights associated with Tina Turner and her music catalog, including her share of her solo recordings and publishing assets, and rights to her name and image.

The Berlin-based company says it will work with the 81-year-old rock and soul legend, who is now retired from the stage, to “maintain and develop her musical treasure trove and safeguard her inspirational legacy.”

“Like any artist, the protection of my life’s work, my musical inheritance, is something personal,” Turner said in a statement. “I am confident that with BMG and Warner Music my work is in professional and reliable hands.” Warner continues to be her record company.

Said BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch, “Tina Turner’s musical journey has inspired hundreds of millions of people around the world and continues to reach new audiences. We are honored to take on the job of managing Tina Turner’s musical and commercial interests. It is a responsibility we take seriously and will pursue diligently. She is truly and simply the best.”

She turners 82 in November. Proud of her! No reason to not sell, at this point.

She's quite alright, and has been. Her second book, My Love Story, details moments with Ike, but quickly goes into her relationship with Erwin Bach, her marriage, and feeling not so great on her wedding day, her subsequent diagnosis, transfer of citizenship from US to Swiss, and more. 2013 was a stroke, 2016 intestinal cancer, 2017 kidney transplant from her husband.

She's busy with the doc on HBO Max, her Broadway play about her life (which gets rave reviews), a few album re-issues, a nd life in general.

She told Oprah, and talked about in the book, that she has a plaque at the gate of their home. It says no bell, no deliveries before noon. She wants to sleep in and stay in bed with her husband. She's retired as fuck from keeping up any schedule other than her and her husband's. I quite enjoy that. She's Nam-myoho-renge-kyo-ing her way through life.

Wow, she's been through the ringer the last several years! She more than deserves to live the rest of her life in peace and quiet.

Yes the Queen deserves the best. She just wants to chill nothing wrong with that. She gave us her ALL.

I have dove into making a whole playsit of her singles (108 tunes) and man...what a ride! She has done everyting from blues, rock, country, funk, soul and new wave. I appreciate her so much.

Hopefully her other children will be well off from this too for years to come.

I was expecting this to happen soon. Is she the first black female singer to score this kind of deal?

Maybe? In perspective, these sorts of deals weren't the norm even five years ago, necessarily. So, we could be.

I've been led to believe for so long that artists wanted to own their own masters and rights to their music. Why does it seem many legacy acts are selling them now? The other notables who did the same were Hall & Oates and Bob Dylan.

Because they're old and want to make arrangements for their musuc while they're still alive.

Yeah. That's why the am/pm crap is bullshit anyway. Just use 24 hours and everything is clear. But since this is Switzerland, it don't matter anyway. People delivering stuff speak german.

When you're old and shrieveled up, it's better to get cash upfront. Instead of maybe dying 2 years later and getting nothing in those 2 years. For a young artist it obviously doesn't make too much sense.

Especially these days when most casual listeners are not buying physical albums anymore and the only people who chart on the Hot 100 are rappers' fan base.

David Crosby is another one and I remember he named "I can't work" as a reason, meaning he didn't make any money from concerts because of corona. Another reason may be that these artists realize they're not going to be around forever and they might as well settle things now, because otherwise who knows what will happen with their music after they're gone?
If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

If it gives her cash in her older years then good for her. Not everyone was prince and wanted to control it all. Perhaps music was her job and not her life and she's happy now. Wish her well.

Solid sign, but technically the sign is "No Bell, No Deliveries" before midnight ("12:00 AM").

If you look up in the thread, that was noted.

Short verison, don't call on Tina & Irwin before noon!
