Billie Jean vs. Black or white

Each song was number 1 for 7 weeks, the longest for mj. Which one do you like better and why? I find both special cause Billie Jean is one of the first songs I knew though the live video version, and black or white cause I remember watching the premiere

Billie Jean is a perfect pop song.

Black Or White is shit.

My vote goes to Billie Jean.

I'm honestly tired of hearing both, but there's something fun about the melody of "Black or White."

But my answer is "Give In To Me."

"eye don’t really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r."

Two perfect pop songs, but frankly, it s been like 20 years I can't stand listening to them anymore.
MJ was at his best when he wrote and composed himself a song. He didn't need that much songs written by others.

That's why Invincible was a commercial and artistic mistake : only 2 songs written solely by MJ.
He should have updated old unreleased songs such as Sunset Driver, Don't Be Messin Around, Got The Hots, Streetwalker with Jerkins sound.

Sunset Driver especially, updated, would have been a smash hit amd a return to form, the true Jackson sound.

There are pieces of crap written by like 5 people such as YAML, Don't Walk Away... Did MJ really needed producers to do that kind of boring songs? No.
He should have released songs like Scared of the moon, Free instead, or even What More Can I give instead of Cry, of he wanted so much an humanitarian anthem.

I really like Invincible but there are a few songs on there that could easily have been left off. You remove You Are My Life, Cry, Don't Walk Away and The Lost Children and you're left with a really really good album.

What's bad about "Don't walk away"?

After 30 years + of carreer, going back to that rnb soup is a bit embarrassing, especially after BOTDF which was such a mature album.
We heard that song 150 times before it was released.

I remember the 1st time I heard DWA, I was shocked : who was that guy singing the chorus? Didn't I just bought an MJ album that I waited for 4 years? The guy was completely unknown to me in the credits.

MJ didn't even bother to record the chorus, that shows the love he had for that song.

I find it to be, musically, very boring and just another ballad on an album that already has too many ballads.

The chorus " If you go, I won't forget you girl, etc. " is not MJ singing.
Besides the Jerkins song, MJ doesn't do the chorus in this album anyway.

Oops yeah, I feel like a terrible fan for not catching that. It’s not a bad song but it is filler

If MJ wrote and composed solely the song, and did the background vocals, the chorus, etc. It would have had more importance to me.

But with such superficial and over-used vocabulary of breakdown songs ( my heart is broken, etc.), such a low-tempo, it's amazing they were like 5 or 6 to write that- officially.

On a song like Butterflies, MJ sings only during 1'24 ( besides the ad-libs), but the song is powerful.
Same thing on Break Of Dawn or Heaven Can Wait, with this time powerful ad-libs.

On DWA, the ad-libs are really too soft, like he wasn't really into it.
Anyway, his heart wasn't into it anymore.

Billie Jean is a now a standard. A classic. Black or White is good but not as strong. I always link Black or White with "They Dont Care About Us"...Black or White is a very simple, hopeful almost Disneyique approach to race relations while "They Dont Care About us"..a bit more real.

AS for the discussions on Invisible...I think Michael loaded it with Ballads because he was getting older and knew that the high energy shows he used to give would soon be a thing of the past. However I agree, if he eliminated some of those ballads..it was a much sronger album.
