Godmoma and other P-Funk Offshoots Bootsy recently hipped me to Godmoma with a Twitter post about them. The album is great! . Can you suggest any P-Funk/Bootsy side acts that have albums? I thought I knew most of them but I totally missed Godmoma so there has to be more. if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2 | |

Quazar, a project by Glenn Goins had one self titled album in 1978. I don't know if they ever did any more. The first side is funk, the second side is more soulful.
Ruth Copeland released Self Portrait and I Am What I Am (with Funkadelic members) in the early 70s. And a third album that I haven't heard. I also have a CD called Bootsy Collins presents: Shag live. It's from the 90s. A funk band in the P funk style introduced by Bootsy. And back then there was also a band called Weapon of Choice. No P funk involvement, but very much in the same genre including cartoons and wierd imagery. Dang I recall the very day I bought Godmomma when it came out. Turtles Records across town only had 1 copy of it. Must have been about '81 as I recall them doing backing vocals on the 81 PF Tour. Great effort. I think Tricky Rick brought the Mary Janes Girls out shortly thereafter talking about "Future mothers of america" or somn on the promo ads (typical biting off the P).
But yeah alot of great music. I'd be willingto say some of the greatest tracks in P-Funkdom reside on some of the lesser known projects. Pick up a record called Cherries, Bananas & Other Fine Things by Jeannie Reynolds. Glen Goins, Bernie, Bootsy are on it.
