Just for those that don't know, sankofa is a symbol from Ghana culture and beyond. It represents the proverb that says, "It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten."

Janet Jackson used this idea and one of the stylized versions of the symbol heavily during The Velvet Rope era, even getting it tattooed on her wrist (as did Tina Landon and another friend - probably Shawnette). There's a movie with the name of it, and it appears often in other literature.

There are slight variations of how it looks, but it's often a bird with its head tilted back, feet facing forward, and it has an egg in its mouth.

Interestingly enough he filmed his latest video for the song Woman in Ghana.
He has a lot of industry people talking highly of him and his forthcoming cd.

He's probably had some sort of spiritual journey or whatever. Sorta like after Alanis came back from India and thanked the whole country in a song. haha

I haven't fully absorbed the album yet. I've only listenened to a few songs on Spotify

but I like what I've heard. It seems like he has the steel pan drum going on throughout

the album. I saw where he mentioned earlier today the physical cd's will be available on

Sept. 24th

I was just about to make a thread about him!

My local radio station has been playing "Cascade" for months now and I hardly hear anyone talking about it.

I thought I was the only one who liked it and was totally fine with that. biggrin

His dad was a college professor and he was into the whole African culture and Stokley mentioned

they ventured to Ghana when he was younger.
