I was a fan when she first came out. Now, I can't stand her.

I've said it before here, that she has this arrogance about her. This thing where she's in on a bigger joke that no one else will ever get. She did it when they inducted Prince into the RNRHOF I think. She's done it other times. She'll stop mid-sentence, and sorta snort to herself like someone whispered a dirty word in her ear for the first time. It's very off-putting.

I mean, she's had big songs, and good on her. I hope she's happy and living her best life. I don't know her name anymore. Don't know a thing about her. I don't know which was the better single.

Same here, that whole fake wannebe Hip-Hop poser act she always puts on is annoying as hell and I honestly think she can't sing with that nasal whiny voice, she's just annoying.

She had a lot of potential when she started out with her Gladys impersonation schtick. I remember my friend in high school was obsessed with Fallin'.

Me too. Thought Fallin was overrated. But liked her subsequent singles.

Yeah, I think "Fallin'" had so much attention just because of new-artist fanfare. Oh, new girl on the block! But then when the hype settled, it felt like, "wait, was it really that good?" Answer: nope.

"You don't know my name" by a milestone, "Fallin'" was industry dreck IMO. Not a huge fan of Alicia but she's had some enjoyable songs throughout her career. I liked the song she did with Khalid last year, "So Done".

My favorite was her first album but I do agree with your sentiment. I did not follow her much other than her singles until the last few years but she doesn't come across to me as arrogant now. Perhaps I would feel different if I saw her as a fake, but I get a sense she is more grounded than most stars in a Buddhist type of way. There are plenty of non-celebrities like that, so I don't see it as a star thing.

In regards to the OP, Fallin'definitely caught my attention that someone new to the music scene had arrived. So, it has special appeal to me.

"Fallin'" is such a definitive 2000s song, but radio and talent shows ran it into the ground. I am still charmed by the Main Ingredient arrangement of "You Don't Know My Name".

Basically cringe when I heard "Empire State Of Mind" now.

So if Black folks continue to sing "Lift Every Voice and Sing," so be it. Melba Moore did this song with a slew of talent in 1990, and I remember loving the song (it was the first I'd heard of it, at 22 years old) and bought the cassingle.

White people get so up in their feelings over stuff that, frankly, ain't got shit to do with them. But that's what white supremacy does - it says, "Hey, that's not about you, but it should be.
