When it came out I didn't see what folks saw in Fallin, Keys herself. Then You Don't Know came out n I was like "OK I get it". Beautiful song, love it . She has a few other nice 1s, but I'd say it's my fave . For all time I am with you, you are with me.

I was a fan when she first came out. Now, I can't stand her. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

She had a lot of potential when she started out with her Gladys impersonation schtick. I remember my friend in high school was obsessed with Fallin'. if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

Me too. Thought Fallin was overrated. But liked her subsequent singles.

You mean Gladys or Roberta Flack? I know there were comparisons too Roberta Flack because they both wrote and produced their stuff and Alicia said it would be a dream to work with her. In between all that you had Teena Marie and Patrice Rushen too. I'm like the rest of you guys. Fallin nor really much of her first album did absolutely nothing for me but damn she came up with a masterpiece in Diary Of Alicia Keys. After that she started falling off. She had some decent singles afterwards but never another good album. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

I was into her first two CDs, but the quality fell off after that.
Plus, her "neo-soul princess" act gets on your nerves.

"You don't know my name" by a milestone, "Fallin'" was industry dreck IMO. Not a huge fan of Alicia but she's had some enjoyable songs throughout her career. I liked the song she did with Khalid last year, "So Done". RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I like Alicia and her music from the beginning until now. I like the direction she's gone in with her music and her life. There are so many skanky artists out there but she carries herself with class. I have all her albums and although some are better than others, I enjoy all of them.

I've been thinking 'bout Alicia Keys
I couldn't help from crying But she was born in Hell's Kitchen I was living down the line I'm wondering where in the world Alicia Keys could be I've been looking for her even clear through Tennessee I always feel that het music is a little too polished, too perfect, I miss the raw edges, but then again, if Bob Dylan writes a song about you, then you must have been doing something right. And to answer the question, You Don't Know My Name is good. I like this idea of being silently in love with someone. [Edited 9/12/21 12:41pm] If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

My favorite was her first album but I do agree with your sentiment. I did not follow her much other than her singles until the last few years but she doesn't come across to me as arrogant now. Perhaps I would feel different if I saw her as a fake, but I get a sense she is more grounded than most stars in a Buddhist type of way. There are plenty of non-celebrities like that, so I don't see it as a star thing.
In regards to the OP, Fallin'definitely caught my attention that someone new to the music scene had arrived. So, it has special appeal to me.

"Fallin'" is such a definitive 2000s song, but radio and talent shows ran it into the ground. I am still charmed by the Main Ingredient arrangement of "You Don't Know My Name".

YDKMN, Fallin' feels more contrived. Time keeps on slipping into the future...
This moment is all there is...
