Aaliyah - 20 Years Later

It's been twenty years to the day since Aaliyah passed away in a plane crash. The plane went down moment after take off while leaving the Bahamas.

This is about Aaliyah. Try to stay on topic and not tarnish this young woman's life with your incoherent jabs at the man who, for all intents and purposes, raped her at 15 years old.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

A new book about Aaliyah is coming out (or should be out, did not see it at the store) that contains a bystander source cited as saying Aaliyah was given a sleeping pill before the flight and was carried on. eek

If true that’s weird. It was also reported that her family would usually be with her on set, but this time they weren’t

It is kind of hard to discuss Aaliyah without mentioning R. Kelly, considering he wrote and/or produced the entire debut record.

Like one of my favorite Aaliyah songs, "Thing I Like". You gotta be nice with the stop button otherwise risk marination in Kelz creeper bridge.

I think she broke out of his shadow well with the follow up albums. Fortunately I don’t think of him when I remember her

The sentiment is understood, but, it's not like she had an pile of albums credited to her name like Prince, she had three records and the entirety of one of them is basically an R. Kelly album... that's 1/3 of her body of work innately, forever connected to R. Kelly.

Timbaland's production was definitely more cutting edge, but her early stuff is still great melodies and great 90s R&B.... Do you ignore her early career or just ignore R. Kelly? Dunno what the "proper" option is, but it seems like myopic to just pretend it didn't happen or ignore it happened: the music that is, as it relates to the memory of purely her musical legacy.
