Billie Eilish: No Sophomore Slump

I imagine a lot of folks have their daggers out to pounce on her given that she was so hyped and awarded for her first album. I liked her and some of the songs from the first album, but I did agree that it was over-hyped. Part of what made it a hard LP to listen to was the fatalism that so many adolescents embrace. I just get tired of repetitive songs that pretty much say that someone is on the verge of suicide because life is so miserable. I just listened to her 2nd album released yesterday, Happier Than Ever. It is so much better than her first album IMO. It starts with 4 impressive songs that are completely distinct from each other, perhaps to fend off the notion that she is a one trick pony. Most of the rest are the songs are worthwhile with the album ending on a wonderful one two punch. What is amazing to me about it is that she seems more open with better lyrics and a more diverse sound than before. I don't expect to convert anyone here, but just wanted to give credit to someone who has not yet been ruined by massive fame while still a child. Insteead, she is growing as a real artist even if she does not stay a mega-star pigeon-holed into one sound and image.

If you are referring to some nonsense she did as a 13 year old when she stereotype Asians on a video, give me a break. This demonizing of people due to something that did at some random moment in their early adolescence demeans the word racist. I doubt very few of us are the same person we were when we were 13. That would be troubling if we were.

Not really paid much attention to her until recently. Went down a youtube rabbit hole. I really like how she works wth her brother. It's all them with no interference from 'suits'. She's interesting pop.
