Prince "Hot Summer" reminds me of Janet "Just A Little While"

Remember in 2004 when Janet and Austin Dallas teamed up to do a guitar-driven lead single for Damita Jo, touting it as her Dirty Mind homage?

Well, Prince seemed to have taken back the borrowing they did with the intro especially of "Hot Summer", just released from the forthcoming Welcome 2 America (due July 30, 2021).

Same chords, tempo range, and almost the same progression.

I can see that. People dog on "Hot Summer," but I dug it from minute one. It's a fun little bop. It has about 15 elements from other Prince songs on it, but people love "Toy Box" or "Blue Limosine," and they both sound like "17 Days"'s cousins.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

That album sounded like it needed some lighter fare anyway.

We played it on my radio show back in the day. It's amazing that those little parts of W2A were out there, almost prepping folks for something bigger.

And here we are.

Apparently, that's what people thought when the keyboards were mixed louder in 2010. biggrin
