Tony Bennett cancels all touring schedule

source

Tony Bennett has canceled his fall and winter 2021 tour dates and retired from touring.

The legendary crooner, 95, is pulling out of concerts in New York, Maryland, Connecticut, Arizona, Oklahoma and Canada. Ticket holders should check with the local venues for information regarding refunds.

"There won’t be any additional concerts," the singer's son, Danny Bennett, told Variety. "This was a hard decision for us to make, as he is a capable performer. This is however doctors’ orders. His continued health is the most important part of this, and when Tony’s wife, Susan, heard the doctors she said, ‘Absolutely not.’"

"Life is a gift – even with Alzheimer’s. Thank you to [his wife] Susan and my family for their support, and AARP," the legend wrote on Twitter, adding, "The Magazine for telling my story."

In the story, Susan said Bennett is "not always sure where he is or what is happening around him" but that music is helping his brain health.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Although sad news obviously, Tony has had a great run still working up to 95 years old. Hopefully his family can enjoy him now in what will likely be the last chapter of his life.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

This is sad news, but as the previous poster said, Tony has lived a wonderful life and I hope his family will enjoy the remaining time they have with him. He's an icon and has given us decades of wonderful performances.

I'm not being grim, but he's probably on his last few pages, not a whole chapter. I have a feeling he won't be around for another couple of years. This thing usually progresses quickly in folks.

Ahh Tony Bennett. What a voice. As it was Amy's 10th year of passing last month, caught 'Body and Soul' last month on YT. In his mid 80s, still some great vocalist indeed. Quite the aura about him.

I saw Tony Bennett live at the Royal Albert Hall in London, about 3 or 4 years ago. He was 91 then. I got the tickets cheap on the day, like £30 for 2 tickets, and convinced a muso friend of mine to come along. At first he rolled his eyes, like 'Tony Bennett?' laughing at me, but for £15 he figured what the hell.

We were surprised to discover that our seats were only 10 rows from the front in the stalls.

Tony came out, with his quartet and - much to our surprise - played an absolute belter of a show.

My friend and I were looking at each other, like - how can be this good at 91?

I'd always wanted to see him live (this was my first time), and although my friend was expecting a nostalglia act, crooner or cringefest (or a combination!) he was mightily impressed by Bennett.

Bennett was on point, he was directing that quartet, he was playing with rhythm, metre, bending notes, really putting them through their paces. It was energetic, masterul and warm-hearted.

At the very end, he came down off the stage, in front of the audience, put his mic down and sang his last song alone, totally acoustic. It brought tears to my eyes.

My friend left feeling that it was the best, most rewarding gig he'd been to in years.

What I only found out recently, in the AARP article, was that at that point, Bennett had already been diagnosed. He already had Alzheimer's.

My mother has Alzheimer's, so I know that journey well, and to think that Bennett was able to perform at that level with the disease - even in its early stages - is truly astonishing.

He's always been such a warm-hearted and generous-seeming guy. Full of positivity. I've always really liked the persona he gives off.

Very sad to think that he's nearing the end, but it's true, he's had a fantastic life and career. I wish him and his family the best of everything.

I wouldn't even consider this retirement, he really did perform his whole life. Tony and Gaga's album is great Sunday brunch music.
