Is HER boring?

I wanted to like her cause I love r&b and glad she’s putting it out there, but I find her boring and her voice doesn’t do anything for me. Does anyone else feel the same? I know it just can’t be me

She doesn't do much for me, either.

When I first heard of her, I was a little excited. Then I put on one of her songs and she sounded the same as every other female R&B singer now, as in they don't sing as much as they talk over a beat.

I've warmed up a bit to that modern vocal style and can accept it from certain artists but to hear H.E.R. do it was a disappointment that still resonates with me.

I don't understand why artists as talented as HER end up doing such boring music... confused

I have liked all the songs that I know from H.E.R thus far.

I've yet to find her boring but I know there may be some songs she has

that would make me cringe. Just like Ella Mai. I like some of her songs but some

of her collaborations make me puke.

I have liked them 2.....but they all sound like the same damn song, like Sade, Anita Baker, Summer Walker, and others songs sound the same.

Perhaps, but there's somebody for everybody, right? Some people like boring. I know I do from time to time.

I like HER. I don't consider her to be a great singer or musician, but I've seen and heard a lot worse. I haven't really listened to much of her music, but I have seen her perform on many shows over the past couple of years and I always enjoy her performances.

Her and John Legend fall into that boring category.

She's the new Alicia Keys - talented but slap bang in the middle of the road and comfortable staying there while gobbling up grammys (and presumable, like A Keys, graduating to hosting in a decade or so) from the voter committees who clearly have a soft spot for her.

I agree in the sense of the same type songs but HER has real talent, Keys is and was a manufactered "star". IMHO.

Exactly, she’s like another John legend though I don’t hate her like I do him. I think she has nice stage presence for sure and is very pretty but can’t get into the music

Nah. She doesn't sing with that shiny polished grit that John Legend does lol

Definitely orange to apples comparison. I see it's another chick similar to H.E.R

named Summer Walker.

H.E.R. has talent but I agree that her songs are too similar. One of her breakout hits "Hard Place" and her rock oriented performance of that song at the Grammy's got me excited for what else she put out. Now, that song seems like an anomaly. I am not not sure who has guided almost all the modern female R&B singers that every song has to be designed for Urban/R&B ballad radio. Hard Place gave me hope that she would bring several types of musical influences into her music like our guy Prince did, but that surely hasn't been the case. I like a few of her ballads, but it does become bland when it is one ballad after the other.

Can't agree with the Keys being manufactured though I can understand the bland tag. To me, Keys is quite talented and her latest album was way more diverse than H.E.R.'s. Yes, the new Keys album has a few bland songs on it but was more diverse and engaging than I expected. No one forced millions to buy Songs in A Minor, and I think it still holds up as good album with some display of musical diversity. Her subsequent output was somewhat lackluster until her latest.

Alicia, like John Legend, is one of those artists people say they like but a lot of people generally don't listen too, at least not beyond their hits. Critics love them, however but neither possess a persona beyond "talented vocalist and instrumentalist" and it reflects in a lot of their music, especially in Legend's case. Doesn't help that over the past decade+, both have reduced themselves to making hollow radio fodder for an easy hit (see "Girl on Fire" and "All of Me").

I’ve been thinking this for awhile now. The arrangements just kind of lay there with no real hooks. I saw her kill a performance where she played piano then went to guitar seamlessly but her studio material has been really disappointing.

There are some artists who kill it live...but they're studio material isn't good.

YES I find her boring as well. I wanted to like her music and I appreciate that she's a musician and is inspired by Prince, but it feels so bland. Nothing inspires me, but I'm glad she's had a lot of success in the pop market. I feel about H.E.R. the same way I feel about Alicia Keys (though I did love Alicia's first 2 albums)

Mj, janet, madonna, Mariah, prince are my top 5. I also enjoy Beyoncé, alicia keys, weeknd, Bruno Mars and old school r&b (in different decades) and some hip hop. I also enjoy classic rock and new wave

Boring to me is Alicia Keys and John Legend. H.E.R. is very talented, I just wish she'd challenge herself a bit more with material. She has the ability to set the pace rather than follow the trend.
