Bruce Springsteen can play guitar... Passaic 19/9/78

Just recently got into Bruce Springsteen and to say I was surprised how amazing his music would be an understatement. lol Quite obsessed now. And, he can play GUITAR. There is nothing better than old-school Telecasters anyway and this performance just slays.

.

Too bad YT previews do not seem to work here anymore... but PLEASE just follow the link. lol

Because Bruce is such a brilliant songwriter, and one of the greatest live performers of all time, like Prince, his skills as a guitarist have been underrated

Finally started to get into springsteen myself about 5 years back. Slowly but surely working my way through his discography.

So glad I did. "Racing In The Streets" is one of the most beautiful songs ever. and that's just a single example of the many diamonds in his catalogue.

Yes! There's an alternate version, usually called Racing in the Street '78, I think, that I prefer at the moment (ask me again tomorrow). More of a rock song, with amazing vocals.

I love his recent album Letter To You. There are some really nice gems on there. I'm also a newbie to Springsteen.

Here's one of my favorite live performances of I'm On Fire. The story he tells before the song is so evocative.

Yes! "Letter to you" is great. I can see them opening the live shows with "Ghosts" once the shitshow out there is over. And "I'll see you in my dreams" might close the show. Have you seen the documentary about the recording of the album on Apple+?

Unfortunately I don't have Apple+ but I have been watching interviews with him on YouTube about the album.

hmm, have not picked up letters to you, last one I grabbed was Western Stars, pretty decent.

Tunnel of Love is my go to record of his, realize he was more epic early in his career, but his heartfelt songwriting on Tunnel just makes me ache

The first two are probably from the same concert as the one I posted, absolutely kick-ass concert. biggrin A bunch of concerts all the way back to 1975 and as far as I know EVERY concert from 2014 on are available with great mixes and in several formats at https://live.brucespringsteen.net/. I know someone else who could have done that.

I like "Letter to You" because of the songwriting, the band sound (first album he recorded live in the studio with the E-Street Band in a while) and because it deals with appropriate themes like the loss of band members, passing of time and so on.

.

Here's "I'll see you in my dreams" from the documentary: https://www.youtube.com/w...LHb8pcenEI Touching moment with Jon Landau at the end.

I love Bruce. Top 5 artist for me and I have everything he's ever released. Having said that, I never thought he was a great guitar soloist. Certainly capable but not great. This performance is cool but it's more emotion than skill. Compared to the piano intro, the organ solo and the sax solo, his solo is more emotion which is also fine.

Sure, I agree... It's not about technical skill, but the emotion, rawness and intensity are amazing. Also, I just LOVE that raw Telecaster sound.
