I have to say, I don't know who Sharon Bryant is. She has a nice voice, reminds me of a tamer Stephanie Mills at times. (Steph's got the superior voice, obviously.) She's not the next Whitney or anything, but she can hold her, own for sure.

Her version is... meh. It's really generic, dated by production. Sounds like it's right of the 1988 boat. (I don't know the year it was released, but I'd say it's a safe bet I'm close.)

Steve Perry's verison is superior, and always will be. I play the Yacht Rock station on Amazon, and I have an Ambrosia station on Pandora. Both shuffle Perry's verison into the mix. I think it's probably one of his best songs ever, including Journey-era stuff. It ranks right up there with ballads like "Open Arms," "Faithfully," "When You Love A Woman," and "Who's Cryin' Now." (I know Perry didn't write all those.)

Sharon Bryant is the original female lead of Atlantic Starr. I have always enjoyed both versions. Hard for me to choose.

AHH, never knew her name, but certainly knew who Atlantic Starr is. Good to know.

Still goin' w/ Perry.

I'm going with the soulful version Sharon Bryant.

I was digging her version before I knew it was a remake.

I'm calling it what people call it for a long time now. May be new to you, but Yacht Rock, as an idiom, has been that for a while now.

I love it.

Nope sorry "Yatch Rock" term has been around only since 2005. People been calling it soft rock/ 70's/ 80's pop since day one (and they still are)

Honestly Steve Perry's version is more soulful than Sharon Bryant version. Her version is more of a dance version.

That's 16 years. Good enough for me. Pandora nor Amazon or anyone else is going to change that. Soft sounds... soft. lol

Hey listen, I'm 53 this year. I'm right there. But times, they are a-changin'.

Don't hate it, just give into it. It's easier. Don't be that "get off my lawn" guy. Not yet. lol lol

Steve Perry's version which I like too is typical 80's era pop to me
and Sharon's version is borderline midtempo but there is nothing about her
version that says get out on the dance floor and jam.

It's not her voice I find not soulful but the musical arrangement which has that typical 80's era dance sound. Just watching Steve Perry's Foolish Heart video it's nothing fancy, just a man sitting down if front of a microphone, just singing from his heart, a very un-80's video.
