Should Cyndi Lauper release a new album? Listening to Hat Full Of Stars and A Night To Remember over the past week and really miss her special brand of pop/rock.
Her recent albums have all been very niche (standards, dance, blues, country) and I’m wondering if she’ll ever get back to the basics and deliver a regular studio album. |

I wouldn’t mind, it would be nice if she had a big hit on her hands, well into her 70s |

Bring Ya to the Brink was really excellent, but she talks about that whole time period as a career lowlight in her autobio so I don't know if she's up to releasing any more pop albums. She follows her own muse I guess. [Edited 7/28/21 6:50am] |

I know exactly what you mean about her special style of pop/rock. I'm not sure anyone writes like that anymore but I know she would be capable. Just saw her ring in 2021 on New Years Eve so she likes to stay in the public eye! |

Such an opposite experience for fans.

Yeah! I saw her on that tour and she was amazing! Was a bit of a shock to read her moan about it in her autobio. |

When Sony resigned her in the early 00’s because she was getting so much critical acclaim on the Cher tour, I thought we’d get a real return to form. Instead they stuck her in the studio making her belt out torch songs. The At Last CD did nothing but collect dust on my shelf. 🤬 |

That sounds like At Last. |

Let's be real, having a big hit into your 70s for any artist would be incredible.
but not going to happen. I think we all have to realize that shelf life on a new album by legend acts, debut and then drop like a stone and usually there's no mention of it. Even for all the push they put into it themselves and many are on small labels, it may get them a chart position for a week if they are lucky a lot don't debut at all, I'm sure already people are thinking the new prince is going to have some sort of staying power, be prepared to be let down.

That happened with Alanis’ album that came out last year. It came out and then dropped way down on the album chart soon after. However, her team did a good job of slowly spacing out the release of 3-4 songs before the album dropped so at least it felt somewhat like an “era”. She also released some B-sides, remixes and new tracks after the album drop to keep the fan base engaged. I think that’s the best way to go for a lot of these older acts.

It definitely ain't something people should hold their breath for; aside from a handful of already long established names, artists these days struggle to land hits in their 30s. The pop game has never been more skewed toward young people than it has over the past decade. That's why it would be an incredible feat for any boomer/X-er artist to score big on the charts, no matter how much of a megastar they were back in the day. |

Good example, even though she's only like 45. |

She's getting there at 68. Though she still looks pretty good and still has that youthful vibe about her. |

She is still capable of a pop makeover, a wild look, energetic and passionate performances live on stage, and doesn't have the shitty politics that is another major plus for trying to push a legacy artist.
