The Curtis Mayfield Reader

The new Prince single "Born 2 Die" was supposedly done as a challenge when Cornel West said that Prince was good, "but, he's no Curtis Mayfield." What West meant by that, who knows. But, when I heard "Born 2 Die" the other day, my first thought was, "Someone was listening to Curtis." The song was also released on Curtis' birthday. Below are a few links about Mayfield and his music.

Thank you for posting these great articles here...Curtis Mayfield is one of my all time favorite singers/composer/producer/arranger/guitarists, ever...ive always felt like he is somewhat overlooked when discussing the lengends and alltime greats of the music/recording industry...i still play the "Claudine Soundtrack" and "Back To The World" and "Sweet Exorcist" and "Shaft Soundtrack" regularly, as those albums are part of the soundtrack of my youth and were some of my late mother's favorite albums ... to the point where i often cry when i listen to "To Be Invisible" and "Mr. Welfare" from the "Claudine Soundtrack" and the song "Back To The World", because i can sometimes feel her presence when they play...this is very emotional for me
