Interesting article. I would've assumed that "Irons In The Fire" was her 1st gold. * Side note- one thing that I've always loved about Lady T is that she's the only artist that I'm aware of that has 2 completely different but dope "Greatest Hits" albums- one on Motown and one on Epic.

I remember back in the early days of CDs, (when companies were just dumping stuff onto CDs instead of remastering), Motown put Irons in the Fire and It Must Be Magic on 1CD, and since then, I kept listened to them as if it were one great double album. LOL! But Yeah , It Must be Magic was arguably her best!!

"Portugese Love" is one of the greatest songs that Teena has done sexy, jazzy and exotic...it's a definite highlight of the album.

I love all of Teena’s albums, but I am partial to the Motown stuff. The four albums she recorded on Motown are my favorites. She has said that,at Motown, all of the artists were like family.”I could be in one studio recording a song, and Stevie Wonder or Smokey would be right down the hall, recording songs too”, Teena said. She absorbed those influences and came up with some stunning tracks.

I used to have this back in the early 90s. I hated it because some of the songs were single or edited versions. I believe this was released before each title was available individually on CD? "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Yup-back then, they didn't give a shit --at that same time, they were taking tracks off of Prince's 1999, just to make it fit on a single CD, LOL! But yeah, it was before each one was available as a separate CD......

We're going to need a 40th Anniversary thread for Rick James' "Street Songs". These were two of the five LPs I played the most during the summer of 1981 (the other three were Quincy Jones' "The Dude", Chaka's "What 'cha Gonna Do for Me", and the debut LP from "Unlimited Touch").

I got this album but I never listened to it all the way through. That might have to change today.

I agree.Give us some alternate takes and outtakes! It's a nice remaster,though.
Going off-topic here to ask you this......have you heard about the new, big, massive Phyllis Hyman box set that is coming out soon? I think you would love this

Yes. I heard about the Phyllis box set being released through Soulmusic.com. Unfortunately, there is nothing new on it. All of the bonus tracks are available on other CDs. They could have at least added the extended version of "Ain't You Had Enough Love" as a bonus on "Livng All Alone" and the remix for "It's Not About You" on "I Refused To Be Lonely" but they didn't bother to do it. Those could have possibily enticed me to cop the box set. [Edited 6/10/21 9:07am] "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Robbery seems to be an underrated album in her catalog.Surprisingly,it didn't generate any big hits.I think it's a strong album."Midnight Magnet" is great and my favorite track is the slow groove "Stop The World".Like "Portugese Love",it has a latin feel which is delightful.

Robbery is my fav Tee album followed by It Must Be Magic, Starchild, & Naked To The World... seems most fans write her Epic years off in favor of the Motown years

I only ever listened to Irons In The Fire all the way through, I got some major catching up to do.

Teena toured with Rick in the summer of ‘81 (the “Street Songs Tour”).They routinely did a 20-minute (!) version of “Fire and Desire”.I’m hoping that one of these shows finally makes it to DVD/blu-Ray.

But it remained in heavy radio rotation for years The promotion/marketing for this album was odd.Epic weren’t sure how to properly promote this project. There were three singles (“Fix It,Baby”,”Midnight Magnet” and “Stop The World”) but no videos for any of those tracks.Instead, there was one video…for the title track (which,as far as I know, was NOT even released as a single
