DMX remains in a coma and on life support at a New York hospital five days after being admitted following a heart attack.

The rapper, 50, will undergo a series of tests Wednesday to determine how much brain function and activity he has, PEOPLE can confirm. These tests will dictate further decisions to be made by DMX's family.

"We are just waiting on the doctors to tell us what the next steps are," DMX's manager, Steve Rifkind, tells PEOPLE.

Master P is keeping DMX in his prayers, and he can't help but think X's drug overdose could have been prevented -- and his idea is for rappers to do a better job looking after their own.

We got Master P in Los Angeles Thursday and our photog asked him about DMX's legacy ... as he remains on life support in a New York hospital.

(CNN)Rapper DMX is hospitalized and on life support at a hospital in White Plains, New York, his longtime attorney Murray Richman confirmed to CNN.

The rapper suffered a heart attack Friday around 11 p.m. at his home in White Plains and was taken via ambulance to a local hospital, where he remains on a ventilator, Richman said. The attorney said he did not know what may have caused the heart attack.

I hope he pulls through this and gets clean once and for all. He was a huge part of my childhood.

The last I read was he was w/o oxygen for 30 minutes. Some are saying it was during the paramedic resuscitation but paramedics carry oxygen and place a mask over mouth and nose to pump in oxygen between chest compressions.

They may have had difficulty inserting the 'breathing tube', though they will usually 'bag' with oxygen and again and try to insert the tube again.

I am getting the feeling he was w/o oxygen for 30 minutes before they got to him.

If so, his prognosis is very grave. Little brain wave activity is what I read.

His lawyer said he had a heart attack, others say it was an OD and that's what caused the heart attack. The same lawyer said he was taken off of life support yesterday and breathing on his own. Today the same lawyer said he wasn't taken off of life support.

The lawyer said he made a mistake when saying he was taken off life support.

Per the NYTimes today, DMX is in a vegetative state (little to no brain activity).

This is why i say no one should be reporting to the media , especially when it's not even someone with them in the hospital because this has happened all too much, Tanya Roberts, actress, was dead alive and in a coma and dead all in 48 hours, the tmz and all other outlets need to just stop and wait, everyone wants to get the ratings and first reporting they don't care if they have the full story.

The media lies.

TMZ seems to be much more restrained than they have in the past.

The family needs time to accept and process the inevitable. Sometimes it takes a few days.

but he's reporting to the media and they don't get proper clarification and that's the issue. The actress I mentioned Tanya Roberts was not dead she was in a coma I believe someone said she was dead they ran with it and the next day she it was taken back and then when she didn't regain consciousness they reported her death again. It's like can you wait, I blame social media because that's why they jump on a news story they want it because they can be shared as the source in social media, and if they wait someone else gets shared first.

Sounds like the information is coming from the hospital now. Most lay people do not use terms like 'brain death.' They say 'coma' which is less diagnostic than brain death. I'm sure several doctors are involved in all of the neurological testing.

I actually think it's a good idea to keep fans in the loop; it helps them process the loss.

This was a well-loved artist and his fans/family need to grieve and pray.

It's difficult to withdraw life support when family can see a heartbeat on the cardiac monitor, though he is essentially brain-dead. I think the lawyer will help guide them.

I assume that he's attached to a respirator, and not breathing on his own, so I'm guessing that if they remove the respirator and he just dies after, then it would be easier for the family to accept his death, and that fact that he was no longer there.

My guess is his mother and the most current girlfriend w/help from the friend/lawyer.
