Kenny Loggins & Steve Perry

I was playing an 80s station on Amazon Music last night. A song came on and I thought, "that's Kenny Loggins." Then I thought, "Wait, that sounds like Steve Perry!"

I had z-e-r-o idea they did a duet. It's from 1982, while Perry was still in Journey. It's called "Don't Fight It," and is on Loggins' album High Adventure.

The album also has Michael McDonald on it (a long time collaborator with Loggins), plus the guys from Toto, Mr. Mister, and Grand Funk Railroad. The song was co-written by the guys behind a ton of hits, including many on Footloose.

Loggins described it as a way to push his limits in rock. But the song very much sounds like a Loggins song. I can hear some "Footloose" and "It's Alright" in there, which is ironic since "Footloose" came out after this song. However, there are some Journey or Fleetwood Mac moments in there, too.

Professor of Rock talked to Loggins about the song last year.

It's a bop! Thoughts?

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.
