So don't choose - have them both.

Thank You! I was just thinking this is not the Math Department where every possible combo is hypothesized. Ain't nobody got time for that!

Honest question: do Madonna and JJ have a rivalry going on? Has one ever thrown shade at the other? Or have they ever spoken of the other admiringly? By the way, I love both. However I would say I like more Madonna songs than JJ songs.

Janet really made an impact on me, but looking back, madonna has a lot of amazing hits. She doesnt have a Control or RN album though.

If they admire aspects of the other, they did their best to keep it to themselves. They have thrown some subtle shade at each other though.

Subtle? Perhaps, but I remember Janet saying in an interview how she did things that were "sexy" and "with class." This was shortly after SEX and Erotica came out. It was shortly after that Janet showed up in a bare-middrift outfit groovin' to "That's The Way Love Goes."

There's the report that Madonna said Janet smelled like a tortilla chip, which isn't a great opening line.

Back then, Madonna was a real c*nt to every other person around her. She's even said as much in later interviews (post-Lordes). It's too bad because we've all but salivated over a Janet and Madonna duet!!!

I've always wondered which one I felt more true to; years ago I'd have said Madonna. But I realized I've always held Janet incredibly close to the vest. It's probably because Janet is only 2 years older than me. Madonna is a boomer (as is Prince and MJ, yet all 3 were born late in their generation so - as Toure pointed out - they had one foot planted firmly in both Baby Boomer land and Generation X). Janet resonated more with the "going thru it at the same age" thing.

I've never heard either directly go after the other in a concert or something. In fact, I thought it was admirable that Madonna spoke at the MJ tribute on the MTV VMA's in 2009 (which I seem to remember was 09.09.09). Janet could've easily said no to that, but in that moment why be a catty?

It's weird on Madonna's part since she's always held MJ in such high regard yet disses Janet?

Ok I take it back and I am a little shocked that I was so unmotivated at 8:30 in the evening. Even if it was 11:30 pm I get annoyed that I don't have stamina like I used to. Maybe it's my arthritis, or my weight or my living conditions that I don't really have a right to complain about HOWEVER,
It's either a story about control or a demand for it.
Given the fact they have about 9 or 11 years ahead of me, I have to respect them both and say Mariah Carey.

Thank you. It's not painful, it's more crippling than anything. I think I need physical therapy really and a swimming pool. Because I have had disc fractures, and not needed surgery but it's a fine line about what is the cure. For stiffness. ROFL. Stiff drinks probably.

A little Google Search found this...I do remember there being some drama between the two but it was kind of par for the course for Madonna

Janet Jackson's Post Rhythm Nation Reign Had Madonna PRESSED!
First she insulted Janet's style in her Truth or Dare documentary. Then over dinner with brother Michael, the insults kept coming.

Per, Jermaine Jackson: [quote]- "I think Madonna sincerley adored Michael, but the feeling wasn't mutual and she committed two cardinal sins. The first was that she was hell-bent on loosening him up and getting him to see life through her eyes. The second mistake was when Michael went to dinner with her one night and Madonna had the termerity to criticise Janet. Michael was furious and not suprisingly, they never went on another date."

In a 1994 Vibe interview Janet had this to say regarding Madonna: "Hate is a strong word, I never said Hate but if I did hate her, I'd have valid reasons."
