I did another thread on a Sade song. And while reading afterward about Diamond Life, I saw how it's been noted as a strong influence on what became neo-soul. Totally true. They called it sophiti-pop, a jazz/pop/quiet storm hybrid.

They also noted how Sade wsa part of the British R&B wave that included acts like Lisa Stansfield, Soul II Soul, Jamiroquai, Brand New Heavies, Caron Wheeler, and Simply Red.

There seems to have been a great synergy between those acts, and the neo-soul genre.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Youre missing Loose Ends..
They actually predate Sade...
Incognito (another known British band) actually made an album in 1981..then resurfaced about a decade later

Brand new heavies and Jamiroquai..are 90s
Soul II Soul/ Lisa Stansfield/ 89' tail end 80s..
Caron Wheeler..90/91.

I dont consider them a part of the wave.
Which was early/mid 80s.
Loose Ends and Sade peers were Shakatak,Imagination,Wham,Freez,Linx,Delegation,Five Special(Loose ends wrote some of their music),Level 42,..
I'll give u Simply Red tho..
I know im forgetting someone..

I'd agree. At least from what we've heard so far. It feels like where neo-soul would be now, had it stayed around and evolved. But Bruno has such a strong throwback vibe lately (24K Magic), the smoothness of neo-soul is there, but his 70s and 80s aesthetic seems to overshadow that a bit. However, the Silk Sonic project is something I'm really anxious to hear.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Jill Scott even moved away from it after her Hidden Beach tenure.

The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3 was the last album by her

that I actually enjoyed. It's still there just by unknown artists.

Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Yeah, she did. She got her paper then tried something else, and... well, where is she now?
