The Weeknd says he's boycotting the Grammys

When the 2021 Grammy Award nominations were announced in November, thousands of people were stunned to see that The Weeknd — one of the most commercially and critically successful artists of the past year — was not nominated for any awards.

Well he’s broken records with his current music, why wouldn’t they include him? I like his previous music better but still

I am hoping beyonce wins some though, really love the brown skin girl video

It bothers me that Fiona Apple album didnt get a nom for Album of the year and nominated for Alternative album? Of course that good looking blond girl with no vocal talent gets one. mad

I agree you should never assume that you deserve to be nominated for anything.

Just recently Justin Beiber and Drake boycotted the ceremonies, and Frank Ocean declined to submit on some BLM stuff.

And Nikki Minaj claims she was blacklisted because she offended the catholic church (as well as viewers with good taste) with her performance.

You might counter with, "well it's Nikki Minaj", but then they actually award rap-alike Cardi B thereafter, and nominate Megan Thee Stallion for multiple awards.

Is there something to her claim?

Lest we forget Janet Jackson, while on the decline creatively, was actually blacklisted by a bored and powerful Les Moonves.

Genuine question, do many people on the US follow the Grammys? I will know who won an Oscar for best film and maybe a few more categories, I won't take it seriously but i'll know. But Grammys? I couldn't tell you how many Grammys Prince won and it has never entered my mind to find out.

good for him... he's having a good year...im sure he'll pay for it financially (and otherwise), as there surely will be repurcussions for speaking out against the diabolical entertainment industry gatekeepers, but at least he's on solid moral ground in this case..."WE" been boycotting the grammys for years...nobody in the black community really watches or respects the grammys...the grammys hold no weight or distinction anymore

I haven't watched an entire Grammy ceremony since the late 80's. I spent the next 15 years or so weaving in and out of the telecasts if I knew someone I was interested in would be performing. Last time I did that was in 2006 when Mariah performed "Fly Like A Bird". Haven't tuned in since. I don't even check the list of winners anymore. Once they started dropping categories that put veteran acts at a disadvantage and Beyonce surpassed Aretha, I was completely done with them. lol

I don't. I watched a few years ago and was completely underwhelmed. All I saw were young people either too surgically enhanced or too lacklustre to perform or put some kind of umph into their performance. I don't understand, can't comprehend majority of the lyrics to simply enjoy the songs. There was one i remember who i found entertaining, that was it. Haven't watched since. Maybe egos get too big too fast. Idk.

Last time I checked in was 2002, when Alicia Keys won for 'Songs in A Minor'. Haven't had any interest since.

While I agree that the Grammy's have mostly become irrelevant, it is truly strange that The Weeknd didn't receive nominations. The grammy are renown for celebrating relatively bland songs that are huge commercial successes by artists who are well thoght of. Blinded by the Light fits that mold better than any song this year. The Weeknd has talent, but Blinded by the Light was his most middle of the road single yet. It has broken all time records by being in the Billboard Top 10 for over a year and in the Top 5 for over 40 weeks. It has been a huge smash in almost all formats except country. And, it is off a critically acclaimed album. All this should have easily led to a nomination. I am not outraged because I personally don't like how the Grammy's reward such mainstream songs, but if I was The Weeknd I would be scratching my head to say the least. His not going to the Grammy's is a resaonable response, and it doesn't mean he is a "spoiled brat" for doing so.

I need to go and lsiten to his last recording to see if it's even worth all the hullabaloo he's making. You know most of these kids today forget that it's an award coming from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, and think they should be rewarded based on sales/popularity. Seems they get it mixed up with the Billboard Awards lol.

They all sound the damn same. Call me old, I don't care. There are few real singers that are popular anymore. Most getting nominated and winning awards are all over produced, auto tuned hacks. I can't tell the difference between any the ones you mentioned.

Though "middle of the road" is not how I would describe "Blinding Lights", even by today's standards.

In other words it's grammy fodder.

But since they didn't want him to perform at the superbowl his shut-out looks suspicious.
