I have the biggest respect for her, but I'm so glad she wasn't with P-Funk when I saw them. The violin/guitar duels were too long and too much during "Maggot Brain". My other favorite version (next to the original) is the 45 single version off the "One Nation" album (1978) played by Micheal Hampton.

she did a great job no doubt...but nothing compares to the original...listening to the original "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic is more than music, its a spiritual and emotional experience ... the violin cant capture the same sense of urgency or pain that an electric guitar can, to truly capture the essence of that song

The actual solo on Maggot Brain was improv'd, right? She's playing the notes correctly but it's not the same thing. I do really like it though, thanks for posting!

she is playing song melody but she is improvising as well, creating new parts ,you think Eddie didn't prepare the basics before he recorded it?

This is no where near the original on any level........she is actualling playing before the 1 which I find really strange.

Thank you Graycap...I thought it was just me who was hearing that...banished, you need to check out the live versions of "Maggot Brain" with Blackbyrd dueling with Lili (if you're looking for "outside the box/hyperspeed" guitar leads). There's moments when you can't tell who's playing the guitar and who's playing the violin because Byrd is keeping up with her....Eddie wasn't a shred guitarist..he had more of a gospel/Jimi/funk rock/bluesy/country pickin' style....check out his solo albums and his Axiom joints. He was also a gifted vocalist too.

It's funny when people tell me what i should like or what i'm going to think. Her version is much better to me because she is a much more acomplished musician than Eddie Hazel.Eddie was cool ,had a great feel but (like most rock guitar player a limited vocabulary. All he played was box pentatonic and nothing more than that.Original is cool because it's beautiful and haunting but after a while it gets dull cause how many different way you can play pentatonic scale??? This lady as a musician runs circles around Eddie Hazel and a big majority of rock guitar players.

I think it's funny when people start blabbing about pentatonic scales like how many scales a musician knows is important to me when I hear a song. We all have our priorities.

I've shot some video somewhere over here in the can of her and Michael Hampton doing the tune live onstage with P-Funk. Now that was some other-wordly chyt. They used to perform it regularly in the ealry Y2K dayze.

This is techinically proficient but I listen to music based on feel.
Not sure what it is but I'm not feeling this.

Of course music is subjective and everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Same here. Not feeling this at all.
My favorite Maggot Brain is still the original released one and the original recording (with the band in the mix before George muted them on the released version) a close second.
