Tiny Tim ~ Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Tiny Tim was one of the weirdest celebrity/entertainers(?) of all time...i still dont understand how or why he happened...he had zero talent at anything...i guess ultimately that was the joke...like a predecessor to weird al yankovic ...but weird al actually had musical talent underneath the hijinks and shenanigans

I like Tim. I don't think a singer has to sound like Aretha Franklin or something to be valid or to get an audience. Not everybody is into Barbra Streisand/James Ingram style singers. On Hot Hot Hot by The Cure, Robert is kinda singing in a Tiny Tim style. I'd think The B-52s have a Tiny Tim influence too. Maybe even You Know My Name by The Beatles and John Lennon made records with Yoko Ono. Yoko is definitely an influence on The B-52s, especially on Rock Lobster. Weird Al is more Spike Jones than Tiny Tim. But both are the type of singers that would get played on the Dr. Demento show. I liked Tiny. He was an odd guy for sure. Howard stern I yervied him a couple of times and he was a great guest. I never liked the Cure, but Tiny was cool to me. Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!

I liked most of their songs I heard on the radio. They're the kind of act I'd buy a Greatest Hits album of, but not really interested in them enough to buy their regular albums. I knew a goth girl that was crazy about The Cure & Bauhaus. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. Tiny Tim was a big fan of music from the 78s era, so he performed a lot of them. That song originally came out in the 1920s. I saw him perform in Detroit under a carnival tent in the mid 90s. [Edited 2/28/21 16:12pm]

I'd like to see a biopic about Tiny Tim. There was a documetary that came out in 2020, but I haven't seen it yet. Here's the trailer You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. Weird Al even narrated the documentary...the lineage is obvious

What Weird Al does is still more connected to Spike Jones. Tiny Tim did not make parodies of hits. Spike was doing that in the 1950s. I'm watching an interview Eddie Murphy did the other day and he says early in his career he opened for Melissa Manchester & Tiny Tim and he bombed at both shows.
