I've heard Tina's version more in recent years but hers is simply a competent cover of a timeless soul standard.

I wish they had dueted, but the first time I really started paying attention to anything Tina Turner was when I saw the video for "Let's Stay Together."

Tina 100%!!!! I turned hardcore Tina the first time I heard her cover. I still consider it her best vocal performance as a solo artist. I guess Al Green wasn't played a lot in my house when I was growing up in the 70s because I dont recall hearing his original version prior to Tina's cover.
