Don't Leave Me This Way: Which Version Is Better?

I didn't know Thelma remade this until the 1990s. I had never heard the Blue Notes version until then when I bought their Best Of CD. I had only heard Thema Houston's version. Thelma was the one played on the radio and relatives had her record. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I prefer Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, but I can see why Thelma’s version was a massive hit #SOCIETYDEFINESU

Both are incredible, but it has to be Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes by a nose. Teddy's vocals are mesmerising, still give me goosebumps when I hear it everytime! I got plenty good loving for ya baby

Thelma's by a long margin. Althought the version of the Communards is the definitive version.
