Prince Markie Dee of the Fat Boys Has Died

Age 52.

Kool Rock Ski I believe is now the only original member left.

I remember when they were the Disco 3 and their first record was called "Fat Boys" and they'd call them the Disco 3 on WBLS, then quickly they changed their name to "The Fat Boys." I think that was pretty smart - I am not sure they'd have had the same overall appeal and ultimately longevity and success if they stuck with the regional NY musical identity and image of the "The Disco 3." Same exact music but a different name put them into another lane altogether.

Well they say you need a gimmick to make it in the music business and sometimes I think that's true - not that the Fat Boys weren't talented. They were very talented.

Sad day. Wonder if it was the Covid that got him.

2 of my all time favorite songs are Jailhouse Rap & Force MDs Meet The Fat Boys. I never get tired of hearing them. I wonder if Mary J. Blige gets inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame will she shout him out since he co-wrote and produced her 1st hit.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

This is sad. I enjoyed his radio show (with Just Jenelle) on Sirius XM and heard him as recently as last week. Like other old schoolers on here, the 1st Fat Boys album will always be my joint- specifically "Stick 'Em" and Markie Dee's verses.

*

Per Wiki, only 13 hip hop albums were released in 1984. Of those 13, only 4 have verified release dates, including the Fat Boys and Whodini's Escape.

*

I'm doing the "Baby You're A Rich Man" dance/shuffle that segues into the worm today- tribute to Markie Dee and Buffy!!!

Come on now, that's totally uncalled for. The man has died, no need for such a comment.
