I usually watch Jamel aka Jamal, Twinsthenewtrend, sometimes India Reacts, & a few others. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I watch Twinsthenewtrend reviews on YouTube. Their reaction to Phil Collins In The Air Tonight and Easy Lover with Phillip Bailey are classic. Those drums of Phil Collins hypnotized them Don't laugh at my funk

There was one where this 20-something chick was reviewing "Vogue", you could make a decent drinking game out of how many times she hit the pause to say "Yeah... this reminds me of Lady Gaga."

I didn't click on any of these links, but I get the general drift. IT'S SO GOOD TO KNOW OUR MUSIC'S NOT DEAD YET (AND HOPEFULLY WILL *NEVER* DIE!)

I'm often surprised when I hear that a number of these foks don't know who Prince, James Brown or...were?

Why would they heard of them? With the youngest audiences, it's likely that their parents did not listen to James Brown. Other than Living In America and maybe I'm Real, James hasn't really had mainstream promotion since the early or mid-1970s. I'm more surprised when people say they never heard songs like U Can't Touch This or Ice Ice Baby. Since those songs are still used in TV commercials & movies/TV shows. Plus they have hundreds of millions of views on Youtube. I know some people have discovered oldies because they were in the Guardians Of The Galaxy movies & Grand Theft Auto video games. Video games have been really popular for many years, since the early 1980s arcade days and Marvel movies are huge moneymakers. When I was a teen, I knew about the previous generations of singers/entertainers.

When you were a teen, did you spend all of your time staring at a phone, laptop, or tablet? Music is more solitary now than decades ago. Back then more people had stereos or boomboxes where music was kind of shared. More people listened to the radio too and so they all heard the same songs/artists. Now most people listen to music with earbuds or Beats headphones. They choose what they want to hear rather than what a radio DJ plays. They don't have to wait for a particular song to be played. The average person today does not even own a stereo or buy CDs, records, or tapes. Stereo stores such as Radio Shack are rare to be found in many cities. They don't even put CD players as a default in new cars anymore. There was also less competition for entertainment than there is today. There's also the case that neither James Brown or Prince get anywhere near the same amount of media attention as The Beatles still do. And they have not existed since 1970, 51 years ago. The Beatles are a brand like Marilyn Monroe or Star Trek. The Fab 4 sell all kinds of stuff. Same for Elvis Presley. Sure, especially since people have a shorter attention span now. Rihanna has a makeup line called Fenty Beauty. She also does some acting. So right now she's making money doing things other than music. Here's the current top 20 in Billboard for the Hot 100 singles & albums: You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. That's about the Twins. People like Sting & Barack Obama have shouted them out too. Artists like Christopher Cross have put videos by other reactors like Jamel on their websites/Facebook. There's some who react to movie trailers/TV shows/movies who are known to actors & directors. Even Michael & Tito Jackson's sons have a movie reaction channel on Youtube. They're called Film Family. I watch a few. I find it funny that quite a few reactors knew the Bee Gees' Stayin' Alive but never knew the song's or the group's name, then they see the video and are really surprised to discover that the Bee Gees are white [Edited 3/4/21 10:08am]
