Battle Of The Jacksons' Songs: One More Chance

Which "One More Chance" by each member of the Jackson Family is the best one?

Jackson 5

The Jacksons

Janet Jackson

or

Michael Jackson

The J5 song is one my favourite from the band.
The Jacksons song was clearly a huge inspiration for Phil Collins' One More Night

I’ve also heard that, one more night is great and definitely Jackson-esque

Janet made the song what it should've been all along.

I always wondered why she covered this song, but I sorta think it was to help Randy out financially. It was either Janet or Michael which had a monthly allowance going to Marlon and/or Randy for quite a while. (I remember seeing a document, but I couldn't tell you where/what.)

He had to make some money on it, since "If" was such a huge single. I know I bought it (loved most of the remixes) back in the day.

These were not all the same song, though.

So, which song with the same title is the best, or what?

The R Kelly song?

The R Jackson song?

Yeah, that's the weirdness of the post. There's no real comparison except between Randy's version from Victory, and Janet's b-side cut. The others are pointless for comparison.

And the OP never said it was. The question simply was, which "One more chance" is the best.

Correct me if I m wrong, but One more chance was only released on an obscure single in Japan.
I don't know howhowit could have helped some of his brother.

I think Randy wrote it so he probably got some royalties for it

You're wrong. "One More Chance" was the b-side to "If." I bought it at a regular record store back then (probably Sam Goody or Record Town), not an import. It was on the CD-maxi, and the basic single.

Randy wrote the song, which entitled him to songwriter royalties. He gets paid for someone to cover his song, and any resulting sales of anything that song is included with.

"If" was a massive single, which means even if he got a half percent or one percent of sales, he'd have gotten a chunk of change. This was way before Napster or the internet. People had to buy music to get it.

It wasn't just on the "If" single. It was also on the 2-CD limited edition janet. that was housed in a longbox-shaped book, which was higher priced. That was a Euro release, but still available in the U.S. I saw it at more than once place back then.

So yeah, it helped him financially.

Ok, then if it were on the regular If single, that sold 1.3 millions worldwide, then it was good money for Randy.

Depending on his cut. A single likely has points just like an album does, although it's less money because a single may only be $6.99 compared to an $18 album back then. But the 2-CD janet. helped, too. Randy's always had money issues it seems. So to see him and Marlon on Janet's charity list wasn't a total surprise.

1. Michael Jackson
2. The Jacksons
3. Janet Jackson
4. Jackson 5

These are all different songs except Randy singing with the Jacksons and Janet’s remake of his version. I prefer Randy’s version over hers.

I'm just gonna stick to Janet and The Jacksons here.

I prefer The Jacksons original. Those 80s synths set the mood perfectly. Janet's version is smoother but it strips some of that personality of the original's production in being so.

The Janet version... I’m not a *massive* fan of hers, but bought the 7” and CD for “If” specifically to have copies of it.

I actually like the MJ version best. I was surprised he released it as a single, as it was just an average, decent pop song. If not for the abuse allegations, I wonder if MJ wasn't going to be over making the massive, expensive albums and maybe settle into his legend status and just release singles and albums as he saw fit.
