Nothing compares: Sinead O’Connor memoir coming out in June

LET'S NOT TURN THIS INTO THE BASHING OF A WOMAN WHO SUFFERS FROM MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS. This isn't about her calling about Arsenio selling drugs to Prince, and all that shit. We can talk about the book, her time around Prince, etc., but leave the gossip and hate mongering out, por favor.

NEW YORK (AP) — Sinead O’Connor hasn’t released any albums in the past few years, but she has been getting some writing done.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books & Media announced Monday that the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter’s memoir, Rememberings, will come out June 1. Houghton Mifflin is calling the book a “revelatory” account of O’Connor’s life, from her childhood in Dublin through such triumphs as her cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” and through her many controversies and her struggles with mental illness. Last month, she announced she was entering a year-long treatment program for trauma and addiction.

“This is my story, as I remember it. I had great fun writing it over the past few years,” O’Connor said in a statement.

O’Connor, who turns 54 this week, is also known for the albums “The Lion and the Cobra” and “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got.” Her most recent full-length recording, “I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss,” came out in 2014, but she is working on new material and has said she hopes to have an album out in 2022. This fall, she released a cover of the late Mahalia Jackson’s “Trouble of the World.”

I think she has quite a bit to say. Though, it is documented she has mental illness,

she is not psychotic.

Yeah, I think more than any Prince story or whatever she may have (that we've likely mostly heard), her book could be an honest insight into what it's like to fight for one's mental health on a day to day basis. Being in a fast-paced and fickle world like the music industry surely only exasperates it.

Also, her upbringing and knowing about the Catholic church waaayyy before anyone in the U.S. took notice is something that we should credit her for and be appreciative, rather than go on and on about her tearing up a picture of the pope. She, like Prince in some regards, was ahead of the curve quite early.

Yes, I think she will have interesting insights...I will read her book.

I'm a sucker for an autobiography, so I'm in. I'm not a huge fan of her music per se, but she's interesting as a person for sure.

I was hoping she would have finished recording "No Mud No Lotus" by now but if she's been writing her memoir, I'll gladly wait a little longer and read her story first.

RODSERLING

She made a carreer out of a Prince's cover, that's crazy.
The album with NC2U sold like D&P about 7 millions.
Prince needed 7 singles to do that.
Interesting to see that when you re a "young" Star, it s easier to sell than when you re a confirmed star.
