1991-1995--- Hip Hop Mid-East Coast love

and the continuation of that vibe after

I found an old mix tape from a college radio station...
I miss those day, remixes, instrumentals

Common - Resurrection

Common Sense - Resurrection (Extra P. Remix) (Instrumental) [Track 18]

Common Sense - Resurrecti... - YouTube

I stagger in the gatherin' possessed by a patter-in
That be scatterin'
Over the global, my vocals be travelin', unravelin' my abdomen
It's slime that's babblin' grammatics that are masculine
I grab the men, verbally badgering broads
I wish that Madeline was back on video LP
I went against all odds and got a even steven
Proceed to read and not believin' everything I'm readin'
But my brain was bleedin', needin' feedin', and exercise
I didn't seek the best of buys, it's a lie to textualize
I analyze where I rest my eyes
And chastise the best of guys with punchlines
I'm Nestle when it's crunch-time
For your mind like one time
If poetry was pussy I'd be sunshine
Cause I deliver like the Sun-Times
Confined in once-mines on dumb rhymes I combine
I'm hype like I'm unsigned, my diet I un-swine
Eating beef sometimes -- I try to cut back on that shit
This rap shit is truly outta control
My style is too developed to be arrested
It's the freestyle, so now it's out on parole
They tried to hold my soul in a holding cell so I would sell
I bonded with a break and had enough to make bail
A Mr. Meaner fell on his knee for the jury
I asked No for his ID and the judge thought there was two of me
Motion for a recess to retest my fingerprints
They relinquished Sense, cause I was guilty in a sense
I ride the rhythm like a Schwinn bike when in dim light
I use insight to enlight devices hit the skin tight
Words of wisdom wail from my windpipe, imagination's in flight
I send light, like Ben's kite I've been bright
Get open like on gym nights and in fights I send rights
Don't hook with skins my friends like I spend nights up in dykes
In spite, I've been indicted as a freak of all trades
I got it made
I bathe in bass lines, rinse in riffs, dry in drums
Come from a tribe of bums hooked on Negro and mums
Had to halt with the malt liquor
Cause off the malt liquor, I fought niggas, now my speech and thoughts quicker
Cruising Southside streets with no heat and no sticker
UAC got my back and we don't get no thicker
UAC got my back and we don't get no thicker
UAC got my back and we don't, now check it
I'm a ho but not a ho nigga, ain't scared of no nigga
But it's my turn to go I gotta go
And I'm gone with the storm

Pete Rock & CL Smooth - Lots of Lovin' (Instrumental)

Lots of lovin, lots of lovin...
A sweet serenade, sip lemonade
As we laid inside the shade
My heart was captured when you possessed it
Carressed and blessed it, even suggested
You love me and I love
And together, it would just be us two
I would protect ya, in your moment of fear
Relax, lover come here
And let's create this heavenly fantasy
When you lay next to me
I need you, and only you, to give me more
Tender love right down to the core
If you could read what's on my mind
You will find my feelings are genuine
Day after day, you're the one I'm thinking of
With lots of love
Lots of lovin, lots of lovin... the heat
Some say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice
Make love everyday, okay, produce
I ride through the tunnel of love, share a milkshake
Carve our name in a tree by the lake
Look in your eyes 'cause I miss you much
The way you say, "I love you, C.L." and your gentle touch
We reminisce with a french kiss
And out of all the girls, you're the first on my list
The only one now, and truly for life
My fiance and future wife
Now you realize, you're the one I'm thinking of
With lots of love
Lots of lovin, lots of lovin... the heat
You want to be treated like a queen, stroked like a kitten
Every night you're the mitten I'm fittin'
Tease your lips with the tip of my tongue
And there's no doubt about it, lady, I'm strung
On your love, looks, and affection
You qualify, top choice selection
Woman of a darker breed
Mmm, cutie, you got what I need
Pour the champagne and toast the glass
Taste, but don't drink too fast
'Cause we got many nights to cuddle by the fireplace
You blush when I touch your face
Now you realize you're the one I'm thinking of
With lots of love
Lots of lovin, lots of lovin... the heat
Allah made you beautiful and youthful
So I feel giving you love is suitable
A walk by the beach, watch the sunset
Love is strong, like when we first met
Wake up in the morning, see your face
And I feel noone can take your place
Ever, so don't even think about it
I need your love and I can't live without it
Baby, you're the one I'm thinking of
From C.L. Smooth, with lots of love
Lots of lovin, lots of lovin... the heat

Mecca and the Soul Brother- incredible beats and such underrated rhymes from CL (Corey Love) Smooth. Great album all around (Straighten It Out comes to mind as a fav) and was pretty popular on my college campus that year...

Not good with posting graphics but can't have a topic like this without acknowledging Bone Thugs' Creeping On A Come Up album. That's another one that, besides being a dope debut album, put a new city AND a new style into the genre.

Common's best lps by far, are "One Day Itll All Make Sense" and " Like Water For Chocolate"... ODIAMS for Common's advanced flows and complex lyricism.. and LWFC for the amazing marriage of Common and JDilla and Questlove & The Soulquarians production

The Roots - Proceed

Music video by The Roots performing Proceed. (C) 1994 Geffen Records

Just think, what if you could just, just blink yourself away?
Just think, what if you could just, just blink yourself away?
Jeff X can rock the mic with tooth decay
I be the 5 foot 7, residing at the mecca lesson south section
Used to cut class in the infinite pursuit of ass
Back in eighty-seven
Easy with the chics I was a chocolate boy
Raised in the cellar with the rhythm like Ella
Walking down the streets to the subway where i lay
Til the train stop then a nigga hop
Used to do the pop dance to the planet rock
At the block party everybody jocked (who me?)
It's the MC sucka niggaz envy
I got my contract in 1993 and
I shall proceed

[Chorus: repeat 2X]

I shall, proceed
And continue, to rock the mic

[Verse Two:]

I wake up early in the morning, I mean early afternoon
Break a lyrical hymn of the stem like boom
I'm flyer when I'm higher put my shit up on a tomb
That nigga represented on the 28th of June
I'm representing philly on the 28th of June
I can make you feel that i'm a surreal cartoon
with my pistol in the face of hip hop, stick in your face
Because i'm on a paper chase, yes i'm on a paper chase
My Timberlands are fully laced I be the Mr. Boogeyman
With records from 125th to Japan
I laid them play like Johnny Hathaway and shake a hand, shake a hand
Your lady tried to kick it, but I couldn't play my man
My niggaz is my niggaz ya see she didn't understand
I shake your hand and shit'll hit the fan, just think
Just think, what? What if you could, just blink, what?
Just blink yourself away?

[Chorus]

[Verse Three:]

Malik B get on the mic yo there's too much on my mind (say what?)
Malik get on the mic, there's too much on my mind
Johnny on the spot, got the rhythm and the rhyme
Fuckin with The Roots you know them ni&&az is the dime
I can make a hundred yard line start to dash
I can make a whole lake of fish start to splash
I can make Conan and the Titans clash
I can Metallica and guns 'N Roses crash
Used to smash crash parties like i was disturbed
Used to make plots against the herringbone herb
But now, all I do disperse the verb
And like a nerd i can make you say, "He's superb"
Word is perfect, never ever shall you misinterpret
I move styles like bowels so now you know i'm worth it
Direct from Philly, the lands where ni&&as scheme
So you know I got the sheen in my gleam

I always thought Common and the Roots stayed true to their early 90s vibe overall

J Dilla - The Light Remix... - YouTube

Common ft. Erykah Badu "T... - YouTube

"The Light" is the Grammy-nominated second single from Common's 2000 album Like Water for Chocolate. It was produced by Jay Dee and features keyboards performed by James Poyser. It samples "Open Your Eyes" as performed by Bobby Caldwell and the drums from "You're Gettin' a Little Too Smart" by The Detroit Emeralds. Framed as a love letter, it is a confession of Common's love for a woman – specifically, his girlfriend at the time, Erykah Badu (in 2012, Common acknowledged via a video for the website RapGenius that the song was about her[1]). Cynthia Fuchs of PopMatters describes it as a "charming, tender, and undeniably soulful declaration of affection and respect."[2] A music video (directed by Nzingha Stewart) features Common, Erykah Badu and "recognizable sensual delights" including "a homemade Minnie Riperton cassette, a mango, a pink lava lamp [and] a deeply green water-beaded leaf."
