Today marks the 40th anniversary of the murder of John Lennon. I still remember where I was when I heard the news. I was 17 at the time and shocked beyond belief when I saw the news break on tv. John could've done so much good over the past 40 years if he was not brutally gunned down. RIP to an amazing singer/songwriter. His legacy will live on.

I still remember it like yesterday. Can't believe it's been 40 years.

Sadly i dont think he will be remembered like that because Lennon was kind of a few different things, he was in the middle of peace movement so that generation latched on, plus the iconic Beatles and some of his solo works but also he basically was out of the limelight for five years and here he was doing interviews and was just weeks after releasing a new album. Plus lets remember that John was murdered there was not a sickness or even a suicide which i feel would have changed a lot of how he was remembered. A peace movement and he is murdered in front of his wife and his home where his child slept, I mean this similar to JFK and MLK, Lennon had power and a movement regardless of if he believed his was the person leading it, it took him as their voice, so i dont think MJ will even be remembered closely like that, I dont think MJ is even remembered the way PRINCE is ironically, it could have to do with all the baggage surrounding MJ's life, where he became the subject of endless jokes. PLus Lennon was young as was MJ i just dont think its a fair comparison because of the nature of the deaths and lives. I mean take something like the death of Chris Cornell to me he was the leader of the grunge era but they werent as big nearly as Nirvana, Kurt became the spokesperson of that era like it or not even though Soundgarden and Chris came first and Chris is even more well regarded in that circle. Both were suicides though Chris's is very questionable, Kurt's death was violent and also not much a surprise in reality, and he and nirvana were in the middle of a big era for them they were selling tons of music on magazines and then he was gone.

The first major events I remember were the MLK & RFK assassinations. I was @ seven at the time. Lennon died during my junior year of college, and you could feel the sadness throughout the whole campus.
