What’s with singers being naked on social media?

In recent times, Madonna had her tub video, and on their birthdays, Monica and janelle monae posted nude photos in their birthday suits

Not to body shame anyone cause it looks like they take good care of themselves, but I don’t get the point of showing it off. And the majority of people who comment on those kind of posts seem to be enabling them

Didn't Madonna put out a book in the 1990s long before social media? razz I watched a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert years ago where they were at some festival and Flea was completely naked. It was on Youtube and he was not blurred out either. I don't know if it's still up or not. The entire band was also known for performing wearing only a sock. I also recall singers like Grace Jones & Wendy O. Williams in the 1980s. Like I mentioned in another thread, in the 1960s, John Lennon & Yoko Ono had an album called Two Virgins. John was also naked on the cover of Rolling Stone around 1980, but Yoko was dressed.

She did, but I was too young to know the details then lol I guess it’s her choice but it doesn’t take away from her music

It’s ok to be proud of it, I just think posting it online is like screaming for attention. I’m not ashamed of the human body, I used to go for life drawing classes but I think there should be some personal boundaries and hundreds don’t have to see it, the music speaks for itself

If people want to post photos like that on their Instagram or whatever, that's their business. But it's a different thing if someone hacks a celebrity's personal photos and leaks them on the internet. That isn't good at all.

I was around for the Madonna Sex book. I mostly remember that it was reported that people who bought it were complaining that the covers would fall off. On the Girlie Show tour, Madonna had one of the Fly Girls (Carrie Ann Inaba) from In Living Color as one of her dancers and she was topless at the beginning. Many celebrities have done nude or semi-nude professional photo shoots in the past. They tend to be kinda artsy though, like those Ohio Players album covers. Marilyn Monroe is one of them. There's also the famous Burt Reynolds photo.

I know even mj and prince have been naked, but that was part of their art, not for the purpose of getting likes on social media, cause ultimately it is for getting a high count of likes

"Sex sells" is bullshit, because they're not selling anything with an instagram post. Madonna in her bathtub was talking or reciting something, whatever. She was in lockdown like the rest of us, tour canceled, album stalled. What's she selling?

The whole idea of "Not to body shame anyone cause it looks like they take good care of themselves" is contradicts itself. You wouldn't body shame someone because they are in shape, but you would body shame someone like Missy Elliott, Lizzo, Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey - I mean, anyone who isn't a size 4???? Someone who doesn't "look(s) like they take care of themselves?" The statement needs to be reconsidered before typing it, IMO.

I'm just wondering why it's anyone's business. If we're going to police Instagram for bodies, try going to Twitter where porn is still allowed. Why not bark at sex workers in their own homes doing their own thing and shame them, tell them how horrible and low-class they are, as they are easily making a better living than a lot of us, and having 100x more fun doing it? It's rather arrogant to think anyone's opinion means anything to Madonna, Monica, Janelle, or whoever. They're aware of people who seek to shame them, yet they live on anyway. And while anyone has every right to be a dickface and shame someone, it says that person should post their own pic and show the world what perfection looks ilke. Put up or shut up.

By the way, a decade before Lovesexy, Prince was naked on For You and Prince. John Lennon and Yoko was naked on Two Virgins.

I would never shame someone for being thicker, I do think mariah is stunning. I just think in the context of putting it out there on social media can’t be for anything other than likes or attention.

Honestly this was never a turn on for me, too retouched and smooth for me but since I already accepted the whole naked on a unicorn thing. Shrug and keep it moving. However the whole stigma thingy bugged the hell outta me.

Janelle Monáe is 35. Since when is that old? Even if a person is older, so what? I don't get ageism and that somebody has to act or dress a certain way.

As Prince said "When your like 40 and pulling out body parts, it's old skin" in these times so much has been done that nothing is shocking and none of in reality gains any real fans, it just gets you likes and clicks and people forget you thirty minutes later.
