Wasn't that mentioned on his Unsung episode?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I was gonna say, this isn't new news. I'd heard it somewhere before, and Unsung may have been the place. He talked about cheating on his wife, etc etc blah blah.

There's a local radio station that plays Top 40 oldies from the 1970s up to the early 2000s. They play This Is How We Do It kinda regularly.

I don't understand how Montell expects the general public to remember him, in his little interview clip there, with him going through reactions of his (fake) death. Of course he will be remembered from his biggest hit, and of course this will constantly be mentioned because (drumroll)....that's how most of the public knows about him!

That doesn't mean that this public perception defines his life somehow. Even after all this minister stuff, he will still probbly be described that exact way: most of the public knows him from his most famous works. It really is that simple. No need to read more into it. No need to make this simple association with someone's most famous work a life-defining statement or anything like that.

Anyway, all the best to him if he's following his spirit. I tend to cringe a little when hearing people speak about "the lord" but it was kept to a minimum.

Nobody is remembering Mase or Al Green for being saved and sanctified. If they are, that's fine. I have no issue with people and their spirituality in any form. Hopefully Montell doesn't think he's going to open a mega church based on "This is How We Do It" popularity from... how many decades ago? (25 years)

I didnt see his Unsung episode. I only knew that one song from him, which I was never a fan of. This interview just popped up in my youtube feed. I thought it was interesting considering I have not heard anything about him in so many years.

Montell is still making that residual money, because Big Lots is using the song in their new holiday advertisement.

As a minister I guess he enjoys some tax-free status too!

so many "celebrities" turn head-long to GOD/Jesus/Allah/Jehovah after their their careers have ended, as if they are trying to wash away the sins and evil they had to commit to become "stars", and to repent for the things they did while they were"stars"...the list is endless... Prince tried to cleanse his life & soul and STILL be a "rock star" at the same time... im sure that mustve been one helluva battle that probably gets somewhat overlooked in trying to make sense of his unfortunate ending as a physical presence
