Meh, both songs were decent... I wouldn't go far as calling them classics though.

What made them "classics" though?

There is no destinys child without tlc lol but it’s amazing that out of all the girl groups in the 90s, those who went solo didn’t go very far and Beyoncé did, probably cause of her age being a privlege, cause if it was about talent, the others could have gone solo successfully

This reminds me of a Chilli quote in the mid 2000s that was quite controversial on the now defunct CyberTLC forums: “Destiny’s Child sold 10 million working their butts off. We sold 9 million doing nothing.”

She’s right lol

I think Destiny's Child has more in common with Jade, Xscape, or SWV than they do with TLC. TLC was like the female Bell Biv DeVoe.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

How is that? They were some little kids. Another Bad Creation was discovered by Michael Bivins of New Edition/BBD, so they're like BBD too. Also there were the groups The Boys & Perfect Gentleman right before Another Bad Creation.

I thought the beat to iesha was similar to aint too proud to beg and how the dancesteps and melodies were. And though tlc is older than them, they were so youthful

It might be because both songs were produced by the same person. razz

Whatever the music press, record labels, & radio programmers say they are. Oldies & classic rock stations only play certain hits by certain artists and ignore most songs that were popular in the past. The labels make sure certain artists albums remain in print like The Beatles and others only have a Greatest Hits/Best Of or their albums are only available in Japan. The Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame tends to induct acts that Jan Wenner & the other founders of Rolling Stone magazine approve of. Not much metal or prog in the hall. It's the music media that make lists such as the "best albums in history" or the "best guitarist".

That's just what ended up on radio, by way of the artist releasing that song as a single. That doesn't always lend to the richness of the song, production, songwriting, techniques, or whatever that go into making a track what it is.

I think "The Morning Papers" is classic because of the mistake Prince left in it. Is it on a compilation of any kind? Probably not. A song doesn't have to have a mistake to be a classic, but I think it's relative to the listener.

Both these songs are highlights on their respective albums. While "No Scrubs" became a bit of a viral moment in the idiom, "Waterfalls" ... well you couldn't look left or right and not see someone covering it, spoofing it, singing it, playing the video, whatever. I think the storyline is what sells the song. If it were the same song but lyrics about fuckin' or sneakin' out (like "Creep"), it wouldn't have landed the way it did. Still been a hit maybe, but that video and those lyrics. That makes it a classic. The work put into it gave it instant classic status.

I like the Swing Out Sister version of No Scrubs that was on one of their live albums.

Waterfalls, has a more sultry groove. Scrubs is pure pop which is not a bad thing but it always feels slight to me.

Maybe because of the materialism. The message of the song seems to be: I want a man with money!
If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

It wasn't an answer song, but I liked Chickenhead by Project Pat & La Chat. It kinda had a similar theme and it was funny
