Her whole career is the greatest era.

So that we don't go thru another "greatest" this or that, here's something more substantial to chew on.

That Time Janet Jackson Fought For Her Life Against White Supremacy

Les Moonves Sought To Derail the Queen of Pop’s Career, Justin Timberlake Chose To Stay Silent

In 2004, Janet didn’t have a record out to promote. Damita Jo, her eighth studio album, wouldn’t be released for another two months after the halftime show. She was still in the studio, working. The songs she sang in the halftime show were at least three years old or more (“Rhythm Nation,” “The Knowledge,” and “All For You”). There was no need for a stunt to get a spotlight on her. She’s a well established professional, multi-million selling artist with a bank account that says, “Girl, you ain’t got to do shit if you don’t want.” Timberlake has never pulled a stunt either. But we’ll get to that.

There were daily reports of FCC fines, MTV-this, or CBS-that in the news. Every person with vocal cords seemed to have something to say about something that had nothing to do with them. With the level of backlash against the incident, Janet could have pushed the release of Damita Jo back six months or a year to avoid marring the album’s promotion campaign. She could’ve also opted to scrap the project altogether. I won’t delve further into the motivation behind what happened or the timing of Damita Jo.

I'm not but I'd love to know everyone's different opinions on this.

So far is pretty diverse which is cool. I thought most would say Rhythm Nation to be honest 🤣

Nope. Just perturbed by the madness which has descended on this board ever since you showed up. All these little strange threads, written like a 14 year old, who just has discoverd the internet for the first time. And all of them with the goal of pushing your agenda of how shit music now is and how old you are. And lurking on the board like crazy, so you can respond right away. It's hilarious.

So in other words... You're still upset from the last thread? Got it 👍.

My thread's are written like a 14 year old? Hey I'm just curious on what is considered Janet's best era by die hard fans since there's a lot of Janet fans.

Nothing is written more like a 14 year old then your basic boring ageist insult's and continuous piss fits. Let's not go there shall we?

Oh the madness of this board has happened long before I even joined this. Let's not go there too now, shouldn't have went so hard on you.

Now stop bothering me you weirdo. Disturbed child.

That was Janet's resurgance.

I would say Control was her pennacle with a strong follow-up with RN 1814, then her third wave was Velvet Rope. VR was probably her most visually impressive show and one of my favorite eras of hers.

Resurgance: an increase or revival after a period of little activity, popularity, or occurrence.

lol What was she resurging from? A #1 album and huge tour with janet.? A #1 album and her first blockbuster tour with RN1814? Her #1 album Control? Was she resurging from Poetic Justice and a #1 song from that movie alone?

If anything, Control was a resurgance from her mild acting appearances on Fame and her generic-esque first two albums. Yeah, they're nice in the canon of Janet, but they weren't Control. Not by a long shot.

I don't know that she had a pinnacle album. It's really between RN and janet. TVR was a darker period for her, but still aesthetically and aurally pleasing. However, it's safe to say after TVR Tour, there was a shift. Divorce, the split w/ Tina Landon, the verbal assaults to both those things on AFY, and the overall lighter fare of that album served as a turning point; a new direction if you will.

TVR DVD was everything. When that DVD came out, I drove my boyfriend cRaZy watching it twice a day, but at least once a day every day. It's interesting to watch the original HBO broadcast with its shitty camera angles that were later fixed for the DVD, and the longer times between songs. There is also a weird soundboard video of TVR tour out there, too. Although, it more sounds like when you halfway put your headphone jack in so you hear parts of a song instead of the whole thing.

this is hard but I will go with RN and here's why. she didn't tour for Control so there was pent up demand to see her live which is how/why RN was a record breaking debut tour for a female artist. The energy in stadiums was palpable. Also, the videos were "events" and jaw droppingly good and visually stunning. The chair sequence at the end of Miss U Much, the insane precision of RN, the relentlessness of the Alright vid, the groundbreaking Black Cat, the "reveal" of sex kitten Janet with the LWNDWY vid, etc. 7 top 5 singles from that album, a "concept" album. the press could not get enough of her. She set the decade on fire with RN

Rhythm Nation would be my favorite...janet. into the Velvet Rope would be tied for 2nd. I really hate to say it, but it seemed after that, the music started to be not as "Funky" as it once was...but of course, I know times were changing. And I'll always look at her as one of the best who ever did it, because she still is. Looking forward to the new one..."Unbreakable" had some grit to it on several of the tracks...and she was my 1st crush. Haha. She set the tone for who I became interested in as I got older...that's for sure!

"All Nite (Don't Stop)" from "Damita Jo"?...That's Funky as hell. 🤘 I actually dig "Feedback" as well. I heard the Rhythm Nation sound coming through on those songs the most.

That was Janet the self realized woman. I'm still putting holes in that album.
Feedback was the continuation of that. Now the Control & RN concerts were life itself.
