The 1993-1996 line-up of the New Power Generation. They were fantastic. Incredibly tight, incredibly versatile, incredible chemistry and they sounded so great. I liked his other bands, too, and I know the Lovesexy/SOTT band was probably more inspiring and creative but this incarnation of the NPG was phenomenal and were able to play a huge repertoire of songs. Yeah, that stripped down version of the NPG was probably the funkiest band he ever had. Sonny & Michael were a humping, bumping and stomping rhythm section! Earth Wind and Fire. Their music is so positive,spiritual and uplifting.Maurice White was a genius.The way they combined funk,soul,pop,Afro,Latin sounds and jazzy grooves! | |

Yes, the samples were a tad too much for my taste as well but I´ve seen a couple of aftershows were they didn´t use those samples as heavily, for example the Paradiso aftershow, and I think they were his funkiest and most versatile band. speaking of EW&F....on Maurice White’s Facebook page,his estate has been posting some rare live performances,including an amazing EW&F show from the 1976 ‘Spirit’ tour! I hope they put this stuff on DVD soon. | |

Alice in Chains - great songs, killer guitar riffs and amazing harmonies between Layne & Jerry. Layne was one of rock's greatest vocalists.

Even when artists like Prince and Stevie weren't advertised as being part of a band (ie. NPG or Wonderlove), they've still toured with some of the tightest bands I've ever seen - large ones too. | |
