While all of these ladies have a few good songs, none of them have what I would call a good voice, so here goes....

Madonna
Cyndi
Janet
Paula

Paula has good music, but her voice is the weakest of the 4

Paula Abdul sings only slightly better than Apollonia...she never had a chance in this race... and the 3 that just beat her are no super gifted songbirds either... ranking these 4 in terms of pure singing talent, is like asking which is the fastest running snail

It mostly comes down to emotion and energy with these four. Personally, I always thought Cyndi was a good singer if you could withstand her shrill vocals. She definitely has plenty of range which the others lack.

I'd rank Janet next with Madonna close behind and (surprise, surprise) Paula at a distant fourth.

Agreed. When I was a kid, I developed a greater respect for Cyndi when she took the stage to duet with Patti LaBelle. The other three, I seriously doubt if they could hang with Patti. biggrin

I ove her music but sometimes her voice can get on your nerves, too nasal or something.

These ladies have more than a few good songs, they have a great deal of great songs throughout their discography

they all have GREAT songs... mainly thanks to great producers and musicians... also each of these ladies came to fame during the initial explosion of the music video era. They were all known for their universal appeal visually... fhey can all sing, but none of them are even remotely great singers... they are great entertainers singing great songs.

i feel like lauper is the most talented of the group.. i feel like she somewhat "dumbed down" her natural gifts to make pop hits early on...the older she got she "sang" more

What happened to Gloria Estefan? She was as popular as any of them in the 1980s and she had Top 40 popularity longer than Cyndi & Paula.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

She’s a strong vocalist? Plus Cyndi was kind of the alternate to Madonna and Paula the alternate to Janet for a while.

Wouldn't that be Jody Watley more than Paula? Paula was Janet's choreographer.

Like you and a bunch of others, I'd put Cyndi first. Love her!

Speaking of GREAT songs, Cyndi got to sing When You Were Mine. heart

can this ranking be done with a "minus" scale ? ? ?

.

weak joke aside..

I am going to agree - quite enthusiastically - with Purplethunder3121 :

.

of these 4, Cyndi Lauper 1st

then the other 3.. however 1 wants.

.

upon further reflection..

Paula Abdul - straight up let me tell you - very likely has the LEAST amount of "singing ability"

her thighs - goodness gracious - probably sing better than she does.

I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

Not having a strong voice doesn't mean that you can't sing. To say that Janet can't sing is ludicrous.

I wanted to rank Janet higher than Madonna, but it was a tough call
