What do you think about Madonna as a singer? Your thoughts on her voice? [Edited 11/14/20 13:47pm]

Some albums have showcased whatever voice she has better than others. I think she sounded good on Erotica and Like A Prayer, but still juvenile at times on Like A Virgin. Madonna sounded youthful, trying, just putting it out there. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I find her voice comforting and familiar cause of being a lifelong fan

American Life was, by far, his best album since Like A Prayer.

She is not an Opera Singer! Haters, haters, hatets! In my opinion, she is a great singer! I have been a fan since 1987!

I'm not a fan, but always liked and appreciated her. When you hear her voice you immediately recognize her, which is good. She's not the greatest singer, but the songs she sang always fitted perfectly with her abilities, it always sounded good IMO. NPG Radio:

What she lacks in technical skills she more than makes up for with raw emotion. Up until that last few years, where she's become too reliant on autotune, her voice was filled with personality and depth. Give me Madonna's voice over a Whitney or Mariah any day. 3121... Don't U Wanna Come?

I think her best vocals were on Sooner or Later. She’s an acceptable singer. I dig her earlier music not the newer stuff as much. Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!

I’m currently listening to borderline and feel no one else could have done it like how she sang it, though Jody watley did a great cover years later

As a singer she is ordinary, passable. Now remember this is setting the bar at professional singer, superstar level. Comparing her to the creme de la creme I think she is able to record and perform to an acceptable level but she is not remarkable.

Her voice is adequate. It was at its peak around the time period of Evita to Ray of Light, due to vocal training and Madonna generally pushing herself in terms of creativity and maturity. Later, to my perception, she has regressed, though I still enjoy some material from all of her more recent albums. As stated above, it's a familiar voice I've heard throughout my life, so I have a certain response to it. Vocally, she seems to be in the worst shape of her career considering her Eurovision performance (the original raw live broadcast, not her later over-dub) and heavy reliance on auto-tune, even for live appearances.

Ordinary. My favorite Madonna song was Physical Attraction which got a lot a airplay on the R&B stations back in the day. I guess she sounds ok for what she does. I think Britney Spears and Janet Jackson are similiar as far as vocal capabilities/lack of vocal capabilities but I feel they sound better than Madonna.

Honestly, I don't. | |

Comparatively, she doesn't come up to the knees of any the vocal savages we all know, but she manages to make her voice work for her by choosing songs that don't call for belting out. Erotica is a case in point. I love the songs in that album. Regardless of her shortcomings as a vocalist, I'd rather listen to her than Whitney. Matter of taste I guess.
