The album "Kick" had a lot of hits.

There was a thread recently about the remastered Wembly show called "Live Baby Live" - also a must see!

Got the greatest hits this pass weekend. Waiting on a good deal for the new 4K restored 80s show, which I saw back in the day.

the Need U Tonight / Mediate 2-fer is easily in my top 5 of seamless song transitions! those are some funky Aussies! Listen Like Thieves (the song), and New Sensation are obvious choices too!

Ahh, the MTV era of "funky white boys"...at some point there, I ended up with a classmate's copy of Listen Like Thieves (long story, but our cassette tapes got mixed up) and that blew me away. Didn't even know they were from Australia until Kick blew up...

They are in my top 10 of all artists that I listen to.

I really love the string of albums Listen Like Thieves, Kick, X and Welcome To Wherever You Are. My interest in the new material faded a bit after that.

Listen Like Thieves/Kick to me are an awesome one-two punch similar to Off The Wall/Thriller and 1999/Purple Rain. Obviously they are not as big as MJ or Prince, but they had a lot of great hits.

I watched the reality show that searched for a new lead singer too, but I never had that album.

I bought the kick cd today while at a record store on a road trip. Will listen to it soon and post my thoughts. I thought of this thread when seeing the cd!

I remember your thread about the BluRay restoration. The work done on the disc is amazing.

INXS was such a great band in the day. I forget the first song I heard from them, but it was likely something on MTV or the radio. I think people loved Hutchence at the time, but never quite appreciated his charisma, sexiness, and unapologetic talent until he was gone. (Isn't that how it always works out?)

Their musicianship, songwriting and production was always top notch. I remember having a few movements under the belt while watching "Guns In The Sky." They oozed sex and "I don't give a fuck" in that video. And to think it was shot in a damn hallway!

I believe Hutchence was one of the greatest losses to music since Freddie Mercury.

I watched MTV and VH1 with my friends(who had Cable TV)in the 1980s and 1990s.

Who remembers the song: "I Touch Myself"? I always liked listening to that
song and watching the video too! 😉

"never tear us apart" is an inspired masterpiece. Evergreen.

A great many others fit in there as well. They had a great energy and unique sound.

One of my fave bands. Listen Like Thieves is my fave, but also love Shabooh Shooba. Kick is awesome but I burned it out on it a bit back in the day...still love it but don't play it as often. The later stuff is good too.

I listened to kick and couldn’t get into it, kind of disappointing. I feel I should have just bought their greatest hits, it would have been less filler

INXS will always be one of my favorite bands of that ERA to come out and to me that time period was basically the last era of great bands with great frontman, sure you still had a few since but that era of REM, U2, Depeche, Duran, the Cure etc.... all these bands with strong material and it was all competitive and everyone was exploring and trying new things. INXS was really one of the first bands to embrace the Remixes, had a Remix LP way back before it was cool. Also INXS had a lot of video footage from their coming up in Australia, this was a band that was playing 150 shows at least a year, today even in NON COVID times that shit is unheard of, especially with newer artists with the exception of a few they dont even do shows. But these guys where exploring a lot back then, things really hit when they did "Shaboo Shoobah" and singles "the one thing" and "Too Look at You" which broken down that song with its incredible bass line and beat and lyrics are beyond any band then and now. "The Swing" was also a major record, and then on to "Listen Like Theives" and even though this brought them a gold record and also a top 5 hit, this was their fifth album and PROPS to labels back then for sticking with artists and investing, because to me it was not till album 3 that they were finding their groove and sounds, and then from those three records you go into Kick which obviously was massive for them and pushed them into stadium worldwide headlining status and the label at first hated and turned down "Need You Tonight". So im a big fan of that era but even more the experimenting they were doing the mixes the exploring that came when the popularity dropped as it does when eras change especially then once the 80's were done and the 90's were in, the goal was too destroy the 80's rather than just create. Michaels accident in 1992 was really the downfall of him, i urge anyone curious about a TRUE story not BI OPIC crap, to watch "Mystify" the Michael Hutchence Story a dcoumentary that was released early this year, beautifully done, very deep stuff, explored his head injury also which no one ever talked about they just wrote it off as a Rock Star fallen kills himself. What does bother me though is the fact that really nothing has been done remastering and doing LTD editions of their albums, though KICK did get a great issue box for the 30th Anniversary and also a Great Blu Ray of their wembley gig looks amazing. Many of their albums are not even in print, now there is alot of rumour that Michael had quite a lot of money and had a will but lawsuits between family and also a shady accountant pretty much wasted all his money to a point now where they have to start all over with doing reissues because who owns what and who wants a check, a whole lot of BS, even his daughter who was not even 2 when he died has seen almost nothing from this money, rumour is this accountant gave her 600 dollars once and told her "Bet you never that much money before" and that was about all she ever saw. So WILLS mean nothing, I know people talk about PRINCE not having one, well look what happened when Michael had one.

Michael, though, was dealing with his emotional partner, Paula Yates, and her custody issues with Bob Geldoff. As a result she and their daughter could not join Michael in Australia

There were also drug issues with both along with his previous head injury.

I think that he was distracted. If people spend the time to vet and hire good accountants/lawyers and put assets in Trusts, alot of this mayhem can be avoided. His daughter, Tiger Lilly, has been left with almost nothing.

I think that he was distracted. If people spend the time to vet and hire good accountants/lawyers and put assets in Trusts, alot of this mayhem can be avoided. His daughter, Tiger Lilly, has been left with almost nothing.

With all that though he was balancing movie offers, and also working on a solo record (much of which still has not been released) but also the BAND had signed on to Unviersal for a big deal and the album tanked, so he was viewed as this aging rock star fallen from grace, 80's has beens etc.... though to me the material was very strong its just they were the 80's and these were the 90's and we cant have that happen. SO INXS had to go out and tour and make something happen but the venues were smaller and they were now being viewed as "Nostalgia" and they were all in their later 30's and being told they are over. MH i think was battling a BI polar personality long before it was cool to talk about it or know about it. And also doctors prescribing things like candy to Rock Stars because they have money and not looking into the actual effects of what it is doing is nothing new for sure. I look at MH rehearsing last day with INXS in that footage and to think that person is going to hang himself in about 20 hours I just dont see it, he definitely had a lot more going on then we will ever know but also the combinations of things just exploded. As for finances, obvioulsy he didnt know hed die at 37, but he did have things lined up pretty well for a young man. Problem is people change once YOU die, all of a sudden everyone wants a piece, there were lawsuits all over from family, Michael's MOM and also step mom there were battles, and of course his father and brother and sister, it was like people were in a shock but felt they deserved something here, the BAND i dont really know if they ever were involved i believe one of their longtime producers was named in the will but factor in Michaels accountant at the time was reputible turned out later this was a crook that was investing others money and stashing it etc...the damage he did raided michaels money because of lawsuits so the deal they signed in 1996 for 30M with Universal all was gone.
