I just watched Live in London bluray the other day. Man, this newer 4K TV we have shows things I've never seen before. It's such a great show, great energy. Pacing is great. He seems the most at peace and happy than he'd been in a long time.

His songwriting was far and above that of his peers. While he had so few studio albums through the course of his career, it sorta made each one special and unique to a large span in his life. LWP was about separating himself from that Faith aesthetic. Faith was that "I'm not in Wham! anymore," breakout. Older was a weathered and worn man fighting for his livelihood, suffering great losses in his personal life. There's a bit of cynicism on the album, mocking the idea of celebrity, and a harsh self-examination of his life as it stands, the relics of past loves crumbled around him.

Patience was a breath of fresh air, a new found outting as a gay man (an openly gay man, although it was addressed with "Outside), new love, and new boldness. Yet as with any GM album, there are those moments of introspective self-analysis.

I love that he admired Stevie Wonder so much, covering a few songs here and there (especially with "As" as a duet with MJB, which is also 4K on the YouTube page). Some of his best songs were never on a proper studio album, but rather in some other fashion. "Fantasy," "Too Funky," "Killer/Papa Was a Rolling Stone," "Waltz Away Dreaming," "Outside," "If I Told You That."

I believe he loved his fans dearly, and they sustained him sometimes when he needed it most. We were always here, patiently waiting for the next project, the next song, they next anything.

I love GM and so does my husband. We've been fans since the 80's. George had such a beautiful voice and was a phenominal songwriter. He has written and recorded some of my favourite songs over the past few decades. I miss him and his wonderful sense of humour, and of course, his talent.

This is one of the best live concerts I've ever seen on DVD/Bluray. We've watched it many, many times over the years and never get bored. It's amazing! Too bad Prince couldn't get his act together with live concert recordings.

"Father Figure" was very cinematic. While plenty of videos to that point attempted to create a storyline and a mood, and many often did, FF really had something else about it that made it special.

Also, about that song - I'd love to hear the eariler version of it, where it was due to be a mid-tempo R&B type number. What changed it was taking out the snare, allowing more space between which created more moodiness and a somber nuance. I suppose someone could just lay in a good snare sound and see what it sounded like. I'm not totally clear if it was recorded with a snare like that, assumed to be a mid-tempo R&B song, or if it was later cut (like the bass on WDC) and he had an epiphany.

I think "Outside" is always going to stand out for me, as a great video. GM toyed with his sexuality in public, often not saying much of anything. But when he came out, he went balls to the bathroom wall. So much so that the cop who arrested him sued him for defimation. The video was genius.




I also thought "Fastlove" was fucking beautiful to look at. Beautiful people, incredible imagery. It's amazing how we consider certain things to feel totally normal, when in fact it was just a stylist or a director's idea for a video and it suddenly becomes so iconic. Who else could make a silver hairdryer or a bare mattress sexy? But goddamn if I didn't wanna jump that dude's bones laid out on that bare mattress in the loft.



The rotating chair, the little remote thing in his hand, the people phasing in and out of existence. GM talked about how the director gave him a little whiskey or something to loosen him up then got him under that water to dance to the song. And again - how fucking iconic.




I can't imagine someone who had a hand in making MJ & Janet's "Scream" video didn't take a few notes from "Fastlove"'s visuals.

When George went solo I was a little sad, but his albums certainly made up for that. I thought releasing Outside after he got busted in that LA public toilet was a master stroke, pure genius. Doubtful, seeing as Scream was released a year before Fast Love.

Also really love those songs and still play them often on my phone. Did you know monkey was produced by jimmy Jam & terry lewis ?
