Early 80s Madonna Does anyone have clippings of articles and blurbs on her during the first album and like a Virgin days? Specifically referencing her days in New York? I’ve been a lifelong fan of her 80s material and want to know more to the story since google provided only limited information on her early days though it was nice to read about. Also articles on feminism that mention her impact, I know Bell Hooks was critical of her at one point as well
May I also add, I’m kind of fixated on her first album right now [Edited 10/29/20 20:17pm]

It doesn't so much as delve into her early days from an artistic point of view, but it lets you in on many of the experiences that may have contributed to the formation of her personality. Personally, I like early 90's Madonna. This is not to say I don't like her early stuff. One of my favorite albums is Erotica.

Cool, I have one book of hers, profiling the different styles she wore over the decades.

I'm surprised that there isn't an online archive of Madonna articles from the 80s, etc. on a dedicated Madonna fan site. If there is I couldn't find one. I did find a New York Times' article from 1989 (that seemed to be the earliest I could find). I guess you'd have to go to a library to get early news articles the old fashioned way. Here's the link for the NY Time's article: https://www.nytimes.com/1...again.html "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Couldn’t read the article cause I don’t subscribe to the ny times, but it’s nice that she was taken seriously as an artist during the like a prayer era

The full article is available in clear print if you scroll down, I don’t subscribe. If you’re still locked out, try clearing cookies and cache, and even unplugging and replugging in your modem/router.

Gosh I feel so hungover from watching the virgin tour though I’ve been to her later tours

I prefer this to her later tours, because of the band, the set list and her style at the time.

Totally agree, though I liked sticky and sweet and mdna, nothing compares to this Madonna I grew up on. Wish she would do a tour similar to the virgin tour for her 80s music exclusively. She would continue to break tour records with it
