Ranking the Funk Bands of Dayton

From Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A., hailed 8 funk/soul groups, all who brought their own flavor of funk to the table:

-Sun
-Aurra
-Lakeside
-The Ohio Players
-Slave
-Faze-O
-Zapp & Roger
-Dayton

...9 if you include the Keith and Johnnie Wilder-led Heatwave.

How would you rank them? Go!

*THIS IS A SUBJECTIVE RANKING*

As far as popularity goes, I'd say that The Ohio Players and Roger & Zapp have that field covered. Slave and Lakeside are the next ones in terms of pure funk grooves. Faze-O has their big hit Riding High, but i honsetly have to hear more of their music to see where they land. Finally, I am not familiar with the other bands left, if they are on the streaming sites, I will give them a listen.

Like I said in another thread, we would talk crap about the Minneapolis sound in the 80’s because it was watered down pop compared to the Dayton sound. I forgot about Are You Single by Aurra.

I'm sorry I just really didn't feel Dayton that much but I loved when Chris Jones and a couple of

I think Faze O did 3 albums.

Check out songs Space People, Good Thang, and Breaking The Funk
