Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You surpasses 1 billion views on YouTube I believe it's the first pre-2000's video by a solo artist to achieve this record. Madonna hasn't done this. Michael Jackson hasn't done this. Neither have Mariah Carey or Celine Dion. Guns N' Roses did it with Sweet Child O' Mine and November Rain.

Yeah, but they re-uploaded Michael's Thriller like a hundred times thereby erasing views. Thriller would've been a billion views years ago hadn't they done that. So it's not like people like IWALY better than Thriller, it's just unlucky.
Now Linkin Park being the most viewed rockband with Numb and In The End, therefore concluding that people just love them more than other rockbands in the 00's, THAT I believe. No official account of an artist/group in the 00's and 10's would be dense enough to erase views. "We're not hitchhiking anymore!....we're riding!!"

He was getting record number of views after his death

Why do they take down MJ's videos and repost them? These are the top 5 90s videos based on YouTube views: 1. Guns N’ Roses – November Rain: 1.45B views [Edited 10/26/20 20:20pm] Paisley Park is in your heart

I'm curious - is this today's kids "digging into their Mother's tapes" (well, in this case, not TAPES!), or is this US reliving our youth and getting nostalgic??

In some cases, an oldie becomes popular with a younger audience because it's in a video game. Such as Act Like You Know by Fat Larry's Band, which is in one of the Grand Theft Auto games. Right now on Youtube, the song has 32,749,016 views. I don't think it was that popular when it originally came out. Notice it's the GTA video that has the views, none of the other uploads has nowhere near that amount of views. There's other songs that are used often in movies, TV shows, & commercials like Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell's Ain't No Mountain High Enough. Earth Wind & Fire's September is a meme brought up every year during that month. The Beatles are constantly promoted. People continue to write books about them, there's got to be over a thousand books over the decades about the Fab 4. There's even documentaries about Pete Best & Stuart Sutcliffe. They have board games, video games, movies based on their music (Yesterday, Across The Universe, etc), dolls, Legos, Funko Pop, comic books, a Cirque du Soleil show, tribute bands, and all kinds of things. Same with KISS. KISS probably makes more money from their merchandising than their records at this point. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Best example right now is Fleetwood Mac's Dreams being used in a TicTok video. It shot up the iTunes Charts shortly afterwards. Paisley Park is in your heart

I saw on youtube just the other day, this channel that 2 young black guys have, where people inform them of music and artists from back in the day, asking them to listen to them and let them know if they dig the artist and their music, and they were listening to the Carpenters, and just bopping along, saying how much they loved them, it was really cute They'd play the song for a while, and then comment about it. It was funny seeing their expressions, like "man I didn't know people had music like this back in the day!" I also saw one where they were listening to the Bee Gees Stayin Alive, and were talking about how cool they were and sounded. People were giving them good feedback in the comment section, saying how much they enjoyed watching them enjoying music from the older generation.

It's a genre on Youtube called the Reaction Video. Everybody's doing it.

I think the most popular ones are people reacting to movie trailers and/or do movie & TV show reviews. There's some of these that are kind of well known like Grace Randolph, The Reel Rejects, & Tyrone Magnus. Even 1 of Tito Jackson's & 2 of Michael Jackson's sons have one of these and they call themselves "Film Family". AKA Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You"

AKA the version that has 13M views on YouTube. Heck even Dolly says Whitney owns her version. I'm sure she doesn't care because she's made a crap ton of $$ off Whitney's version. [Edited 10/28/20 11:47am] Paisley Park is in your heart

And according to Whitney's estate she's the first black artist to achieve 3 RIAA diamond certified albums. Anyone know which white artist has done this?
