Sade are recording a new album during lockdown, which would herald their first new material in a decade.

It would be the British soul group's first full-length release since 2010's Soldier of Love, and only their seventh LP overall in a career that now spans nearly 40 years.

.

In a new profile by GQ, it is confirmed that the band - fronted by Sade Adu and featuring Paul Denman, Andrew Hale and Stuart Matthewman - are currently locked away working on the LP at Sade's house in Gloucestershire..

.

The news of new material also comes as the four-piece release the boxset compilation This Far today (Oct. 9), comprising of all six of their previous studio albums pressed on to vinyl and CD that have been remastered at Abbey Road.

.

The band themselves seemed to hint at new material on the horizon during the interview, stating that: "This Far alludes to a point in the road, not the end of it."

Sade have logged one Number 1 on the UK's Official Albums Chart with their second LP, Promise.

Their debut album, Diamond Life, had massive staying power, charting for 99 weeks in total, and containing the band's only UK Top 10 single, Your Love is King, which charted at Number 6 in 1984. It also took home the BRIT Award for British Album of the Year in 1985.

.

The four-piece have so far logged a total of seven UK Top 10 albums. These include five of their studio LPs as well as compilations The Best of Sade and The Ultimate Collection.

Altogether, they have a mammoth total of 211 weeks inside the Official Albums Chart.

Sade last dropped new music in 2018, collaborating with Kanye West producer No ID for the soundtrack cut Flower of the Universe.

I heard that she makes music once a decade. I also heard back in the day that she and Prince were acquainted to some extent and they may have worked on music together. If anyone can contact her and try to see if she can validate at least the musical part anything else I'm not concerned with.

Wasn't there an account of them making out at his piano when she was scheduled to record with him back in the 80's?

Fans always start the timer as soon as an album is out, but Sade is usually pretty good about promoting and supporting their work in concert. So really it's probably only been a few years since they were out of the Soldier Of Love headspace.

Sade - This Far (180g Vinyl 6LP Box Set)
release: December 18, 2020

Sony Music's special new vinyl 6LP box set, This Far, features remastered versions of all of Sade's studio albums to date, on pure 180-gram heavyweight vinyl. The box set delivers the first complete collection of their studio work up to the present day. All six of the band's acclaimed albums: Diamond Life (1984), Promise (1985), Stronger Than Pride (1988), Love Deluxe (1992), Lovers Rock (2000), and Soldier Of Love (2010) come packaged in a beautifully finished, white casebound box.

The close band of four: Sade (vocals), Stuart Matthewman (saxophone/guitar), Andrew Hale (keyboards), and Paul Spencer Denman (bass), were intimately involved in the process, spending time at Abbey Road Studios alongside acclaimed mastering engineer Miles Showell, and the band's longtime co-producer Mike Pela. The box set title, This Far, suggests that the band's studio work may not yet be fully complete, but this new highly collectable release brings together a canon of work previously difficult to source in its original format.

Revisiting the audio, the band and Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios worked from high resolution digital transfers of the stereo master mixes, from the original studio recordings, remastered at half-speed using Miles' own unique restored Neumann VMS80 cutting lathe, to perform the 12 sides of vinyl lacquer cuts. The elaborate, half-speed mastering process produced exceptionally clean and detailed audio whilst remaining faithful to the band's intended sound. No additional digital limiting was used in the mastering process, so the six albums benefit from the advantage of extra clarity and pure fidelity, preserving the dynamic range of the original mixes for the very first time. The six album sleeves have been meticulously reproduced in exact detail with authentic paper and printing methods, perfectly replicated for the first time since their original release, and assembled in the outer box which was designed by Tom Hingston Studios in London.

Over an exceptional career spanning more than three decades, Sade's six albums have amassed a cool 60 million worldwide sales and have been certified platinum 24 times over. Producing singles such as "Your Love Is King," "Smooth Operator," and "By Your Side," Sade have gone on to achieve No. 1 albums across the world, collected several Grammys and a BRIT Award along the way, quietly taking their "place in the pantheon of cultural influence" [New York Times, October 2017]. Their most recent studio album, Soldier Of Love, charted at number one in 15 countries, including the US, upon release in 2010.

A true testament to a body of work that through its evolution has captured hearts irrespective of age or creed, Sade's box set delivers and celebrates the band's legacy this far in a pure vinyl format.

Features:
• 180g vinyl 6LP box set
• Features remastered versions of all of Sade's studio albums to date including Diamond Life (1984), Promise (1985), Stronger Than Pride (1988), Love Deluxe (1992), Lovers Rock (2000) & Soldier Of Love (2010)
• Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios worked from high resolution digital transfers of the stereo master mixes, from the original studio recordings, remastered at half-speed using Miles' own unique restored Neumann VMS80 cutting lathe
• Album sleeves meticulously reproduced in exact detail with authentic paper and printing methods, perfectly replicated for the first time since their original release
• Packaged in a beautifully finished, white casebound box designed by Tom Hingston Studios in London

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
