How are folks even starting to compile their ten?! I'd struggle to pick ten Prince songs, let alone ten all time ... here goes though (subject to weekly changes no doubt!) ...

Prince - She's Always In My Hair
Prince - Little Red Corvette
Madonna - Like A Prayer
Madonna - Into The Groove
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road
Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar
The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way
Foo Fighters - Best of You

According to last.fm my most listened to songs since about 2011 (when I restarted my last.fm) are

1) Honalu - Holly Beth Vincent
2) In Time - Sly & the Family Stone
3) Body of Work - Mynabirds
4) When You Were Mine - Prince
5) Girls Like Me - Bonnie Hayes & the Wild Combo
6) You Make it So Easy - Nude Beach
7) Rooftop - Lady Lamb
8) The Charade - D'Angelo
9) I Will not be Afraid - Caroline Rose
10) Anything We Want - Fiona Apple

I mean, I wouldn't say they're my top 10 fav songs but who am I to argue with objective reality shrug

The title of the thread was favorite songs, not best songs.

Dude
It’s a wind-up!
They put that list out just to get a reaction.
No-one would have Condition of the Heart in their top 10 AND NOT HAVE JUGHEAD.

Forever, forever ever?
I don’t know.
I think about this a lot. It’s impossible.
And there has to be two lists.
Prince.
Everyone else.
And we’re talking pop songs. Not classical.
And the songs are more like doorways to what those artists achieved too, rather than isolated pieces of work.
Also my list, is by my rules. And the rule is artists cannot have more than one doorway.

In no order:
Gimme Shelter - Rolling Stones
As - Stevie Wonder
Everything in its right place - Radiohead
This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) - Talking Heads
Lullaby - The Cure
All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
Bonnie & Clyde - Serge Gainsbourg
Jesus is Waiting - Al Green
Where Is My Mind - The Pixies
Giant - the The
Just An Illusion - Imagination

Oh shit, that’s 11... like a footie team... can we have subs?

For Real - Tricky
Resurrection - Terence Trent D’Arby
Overground - Siouxsie & The Banshees
End of The World (Dose Me Up) - Tom McRae
Fall Back 2 U - Chromeo

Impossible to do, but lemme give it a try.
Terence Trent d'Arby: Wishing Well
Midnight Oil: Beds Are Burning
Prince: If I Was Your Girlfriend
Bob Dylan: Mr. Tambourine Man
Sly & the Family Stone: I Want to Take You Higher
Marvin Gaye: What's Going On
Kate Bush: Cloudbusting
Manu Chao: Clandestino
Jacques Brel: Marieke
Boudewijn de Groot: Meester Prikkebeen
(Yeah, those last three just go to show that it's not always songs in English that are great
wink )

Oooh, I really like #3. You don't see that one popping up in a "best Dylan songs" list very often, but I really love the story he is telling, it's like a western movie put to music.

Great taste you've got, I love the storytelling there and that ending is a beautiful bittersweet one. Btw Hye by the Pixies is one of my favorite songs ever.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
