"Why Kanye West is the modern-day Prince" FYI. t's an interesting read whether you agree or not. No, I did not write the article.

Maybe in terms of fight for masters, and maybe in popularity Like one album, he’s all over the place, then next he’s somewhat underground But besides that... Kanye is good, he’s talented as shit. If you pay attention to his unreleased stuff, it’ll blow your mind what he can do with a song (multiple versions) I love Kanye. He’s one of the greatest producers and artists of the past two decades But he’s not a musician in the sense of how Prince was the real deal musician Just getting my point across so others don’t come in going “he doesn’t hold a candle to Prince,” etc I understand the differences in the two artists, but also understand what makes both great. Yeah, I love Kanye. If this were another life, Kanye would be like a big bro/cousin to me and Prince would be like my father... ik that sounds weird but if I’d categorize my relationship with their music in the family tree, that’s who they are to me... meaning, they both mean so much to me. I hope Kanye stays alive for years to come... cannot handle losing any more idols... i’d love to meet Ye

Many overrate him but many on here are gonna completely dismiss his talents and impact just because someone dared to draw parallels between him and Prince. That said, Kanye is not the modern-day Prince. He is merely a modern day artist with similarities to Prince.

Kanye is gifted and talented in his own way, but truthfully, he's nowhere, or will ever be on the level of Prince. Sorry.

I don’t see them as being alike, they both do different genres from one another, and are both black artists dealing with oppressive forces in the industry. Also may I add, giving masters back to artists sound more mj than prince, just saying

Doesn't Mike Dean produce all his material, in addition to the 90 something other co-producers stuffed in his liner notes post-College Dropout? I swear the phone book has a shorter list of people than he has contributing to one friggin' track... "Genius" please, the few times he actually produces a record solo they all sound like that 2004 soul sample copy&paste sound he used to do with zero evolution/artistic progression. . But in the context of the article, usually the "modern-day" version updates some aspect of the original article, hence "modern-day". He's bitching about the music industry making him a slave verbatim to Prince like he somehow missed the entire 90s ordeal completely. He's dopey. [Edited 9/28/20 22:00pm]

Meh, may as well say he's the modern day George Michael who fought a similar battle around the same time (so much for "a lone voice trying to bring a new way of doing things")

Not enough for a common ground between him & Prince, I cant wait for the next celebrity clout chasing article that says “Oh look! Both are Geminis. Makes no wonder Kanye is the new Prince” (Yes they are THAT lazy & predictable) 😑

In some forms he is close to Princes ability to make hits for himself AND multiple other artists in pop, r&b and hip hop. He had written for Madonna to Brandy to Drake. However...he is ooenly mentally ill. Prince would have never admit to any fault of his. He just was not that type of person. I am glad...unlike Prince has given his artists more royalties from his label though. Prince ignored his protege past output and they still are ignored today Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Like I said, there's parallels and similarities, sometimes strong similarities but Kanye is not a modern-day Prince. It's tiring seeing folks compare modern artists to legends of the past just for the sake of it. If anything, it just casts an inescapable shadow on the modern artist.

It really just shows that the real legends are still the standard. Like all the singing and dancing boys and girls get compared to MJ and Janet and Madonna. The singers get compared to acts like Whitney and Mariah and Aretha. Just shows they set the standard. I do agree, it's a bit disrespectful but it does show that peolpe haven't forgot about how impactful and influential those artists are.

yall trippin... theres hundreds probably thousands of artists more overrated than Kanye West...he's always been a dope rapper and and one of the greatest producers ever, in his genre...not the greatest rapper ever...not the greatest producer ever, but damn good at both...his impressive track record, and the respect of his peers (and rivals) speak for itself...his antics and behavior are sometimes corny and cringeworthy, but most succesful, rich, accomplished celebrities are weirdos. Kanye just chooses to not filter himself...he's not nearly as crazy as the media and Kim Kardashian would lead you to believe...

I felt before the unfortunate passing of his mother he was on his way to being the best rapper of the 2000 generation and could still arguably be. He never stepped away from the spotlight to reflect. It definitely affected him. I agree with you on all those artists mentioned but Alicia Keyes although some of her output is mediocre. Don't laugh at my funk
