When I was a kid in Brooklyn I would listen to KISS FM 98.7. I always had good taste in music! I like all genres, R&B is my favorite! 😃

when a was a child/teenager in Brooklyn and Long Island i did... Frankie Crocker, Vi Higginson, Ken Spider Webb, Fred Buggs, Mr. Magic...it was on 24/7 in my parents house/car...unless they were playing records or watching TV...cookouts...long car rides to the Bronx or New Jersey...blasting out of a car stereo speakers at the handball courts and basketball courts...WBLS was part of the soundtrack of my life...

That guy's voice that would come on many times per day - deep and authoritative and TOTALLY SPELLBINDING - to do their promo drops:

"W...Beeee.....Ellll....Esss"

"The State of Fresh...on WBLS"

And whoever lived in the New York in the 1980s can forget the long string that went something like this:

"R&B...dance....funk...rap...The Rap Attack Friday AND Saturday...Fusion...The Quiet Storm Monday THROUGH Sunday...crossover...urban...adult contemporary...the Touch of Cash contest...WBLS - We're KISS busters!!!"

And then there was an all-time favorite of mine:

"Oh my God I think I'm having a rap attack!!" (OK well this was a female voice but just as great as the guy) That voice would just come out of nowhere in the middle of a song or in between songs nad either way you just knew things were about to a sharp turn for the funky and I do mean just that.

WBLS was something you just don't want to have a lived a life and not have experienced.

It was truly EVERYTHING anyone has ever said that it was.

And I say this having not been in NY in the 70s.

Quiet storm was a favorite. Great slow jams and the guy who hosted had a great voice. Forget his name right now.
