Jazz and hip-hop pianist Robert Glasper has shared a new song featuring H.E.R. and Meshell Ndegeocello. It’s called “Better Than I Imagined.” According to a press release, the track will appear on a new Glasper project called Black Radio 3, set to arrive in 2021. Listen to “Better Than I Imagined” below (via Loma Vista).

In a press release, Robert Glasper said, “‘Better Than I Imagined’ is an ardent dedication to the value and virtue of Black love.” He continued:

No one wants a life without love, but we have generations of people in our community who haven’t had the tools to actually be in healthy relationships. It seems like people are finally ready to open their eyes to systemic racism in this country, and if we’re going to talk about it, we have to also talk about how it affects our relationships.

This Friday, August 28, Robert Glasper will be performing at the March on Washington, which falls on the 57th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech. He’ll be joined by bassist Derrick Hodge.

Earlier this year, Glasper played on Leon Bridges and Terrace Martin’s collaborative single “Sweeter.” Glasper also formed the group Dinner Party with Martin, Kamasi Washington, and 9th Wonder.

"Better Than I Imagined"
(feat. H.E.R. & Meshell Ndegeocello)

Passive past it
I been thinking about mad shit
Happened action
Baby we never lasted
Magic madness
Maybe you was just gassing
But it was better than I imagined
Drastic acting
To you we was just practice
Sadness mask it
Hated you with a passion
Had it granted
Baby I didn't cap it
'Cause it was better than I imagined

Thought it'd be worse
'Cause it hurts me
But still I can't
See myself with no one else
'Cause it was better than I imagined
Better than I imagined

Trust me love me
No I could never make you
Stay true hate to say it
But it's too late my expectations
Too low you can't relate to
Baby but I don't blame you
Baby you were the one I always escaped to
Day two replace you
Maybe I'm just afraid to
Call you
Need you to tell me if it's okay to
Is it okay I

Thought it'd be worse
'Cause it hurts me
But still I can't
See myself with no one else
'Cause it was better than imagined
Better than imagined
'Cause it was better than I imagined
Better than I imagined

In a scramble to get a flight
I lost my phone and
I'm calling you from the hotel phone
I couldn't get a flight back to the states
I realize you're the only number
I know by heart
Last time I was here
We were together, remember?
I tried to tell you
How I felt
I
Then you stopped me, you were
Then you said
Don't ruin it
Because this is better
Than I could have ever imagined
I hope you're okay staying inside
I hope you're not lonely
And I'll call again maybe you'll answer

Because this is better
Than I could have ever imagined

Calls Robert Glasper

You always answer calls

When I call, you come

You always answer my calls

When I call (you always come)

You always answer my calls

When I call, you come

You always answer my calls

When I call (you always come)

I don't even have to question if it's real or not

You're right there, all times

Even when my car broke down in the parking lot

You were there

You didn't stutter or hesitate

You come to my rescue once again.

Like that

You always answer calls

When I call, you come

You always answer my calls

When I call (you always come)

You always answer my calls,

When I call, you come

You always answer my calls

When I call (you always come)

Look up, then there's

A beautiful man with a kind heart,

And a multiple degree in leaves

We took a ride to the nearest open air,

Didn't have a spear

And now we're here.

Talking 'bout the last bottle of

Chard' Of a longest good night (good night)

You always answer calls

When I call, you come

You always answer my calls

When I call (you always come)

You always answer my calls,

When I call, you come

You always answer my calls

When I call (you come)

Even when my friends at the party

And everybody's around me

I don't feel, still lonely

You come to mine I see your eyes I see the smile

And I'm alright for a little while longer (Hello?)

You always answer calls

When I call, you come.

You always answer my calls,

When I call (you always come)

You always answer my calls

When I call, you come

You always answer my calls

When I call(You always come)

You always answer calls

When I call, you come

You always answer my calls

When I call (you always come)

You always answer my calls

When I come, you come

You always answer my calls

When I call (you always come)

You-you-you don't take no for an answer

When it comes to lovin' me

You-you-you-you, connect

You-you-you-you, don't

Take no for an answer when it comes to lovin' me (We)

Connect Respect the mind, respect the body

Day To Day - Robert Glasper

Its now or never forever
The moment is right here for the taking
To walk away would be a mistake
You give me the feeling
I'm needing
Wanting to be the one
To offer
The greatest gift that man's ever known
I'm living day to day
Show me the way to your heart
I'm living day to day
Show me the way to your heart

I love Black Radio (2012) and Black Radio 2 (2013). Seems I have missed quite a few releases!

yea that off key piano vibe thing I start expecting, but he's done more jazzy neo soul type stuff and straight out paino driven renditions

LoveGalore

His album Canvas is what I expected Prince to do with things like NEWS, etc. Brilliant guy whose piano playing is warm and evocative and poetic.

This equation is wrong. Hip Hop in its purest form is like Punk, nothing but truth.

Afro Blue

Robert Glasper

Dream of a land my soul is from
I hear a hand stroke on a drum

Shades of delight cocoa hue
Rich as the night, afro blue

Elegant boy, beautiful girl
Dancing for joy, delicate whirl

Shades of delight cocoa hue
Rich as the night, afro blue

Two lovers dance face to face with undulating grace
They gently sway then slip away to some secluded place

Shades of delight cocoa hue
Rich as the night, afro blue

Dream of a land my soul is from
I hear a hand stroke on a drum

Shades of delight cocoa hue
Rich as the night afro blue
