I still keep digging new music and new artists, mostly on YouTube nowadays. Every time I found some new stuff that I fond of, I'll be like how lucky I have clicked on it.

I like listen to music in the morning on the way to work or on my way home with my mp3 player and beautiful purple ZST earphones. Sometimes, I listen music on Spotify or YouTube when I think of a song that I don't have on my mp3 player.

Recently, I have been digging Diamond Cafe, SAYGRACE, FKA twigs, and CUCO... Beside young artist and new stuff, I keep coming back and forth to the oldies, those songs are like fine wines that need to revisit occasionally.

It's according to my mood. Most of the time, it's funk from the 1970s and 1980s. I also listen to a lot of disco. If I'm feeling especially gay, it's house music from the early 1990s such as Black Box, M People, The 49ers, Ce Ce Penniston, Crystal Waters, etc. That mood doesn't come a lot anymore because I got so burned out on it because that's all I listened to in the 1990s. Andy never lowered his standards and sold out to dull ass mainstream R&B in the 1990s. If I'm horny, I listen to slow jams from the 1970s and early 1980s such as Heatwave, Switch, The Stylistics, etc. Very few slow jams after 1984 though when a certain little Miss Goodie Two Shoes changed the style of them. If I'm pissed, I'll listen to hard rock like AC/DC, Van Halen, Def Leppard, etc. If I'm playful, I'll listen to pop from the 1970s and 1980s.

.

When disco died, I got into funk. When funk died, I listened to nothing but house. When house lost it's funky disco elements, I never went back to mainstream R&B because it became horrible in the 1990s and never bounced back. Rather than lowering my standards, I started branching out into different genres altogether. I mainly went back and started getting into the pop and rock that ignored while I was growing up because I was so heavy into the funk at the time. But no matter what, I never lower my standards and sell out to the R&B (Rhythmless Bullshit) sound of the 1990s to present. Hell, I've even branched out even further and started exploring stuff like The Andrews Sisters. I just simply tune the current mess out like it doesn't even exist.

I alternate between Spotify and listening to vinyl. I have tons of CDs but don't listen to them anymore, I've transfered most of them to digital over the years. The plus side of streaming is the ease, especially if at work or communting. The downside is the quality and the fact that most of the artists i'm into are 'legacy' artists and very few have their complete discography on streaming so i never have their entire collection in one place together. I've imported lots of my own music into Spotify but there is a limit to how many songs you can import and it can be faffy. My go-to music on Spotify tends to be Lo-Fi which is good background music and doesn't distract me to much.

Since I've been working from home I'm listening to vinyl much more and have increased my collection over the past 6 months. It's mostly about the experience of playing a vinyl and looking at the packaging for me, you just don't get that same experience with streaming or even CDs. The downside to vinyl is space and expense.

In terms of what i listen to, it's mostly music I grew up with (Prince, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Moby, Massive Attack, The Orb, late 80s/90s pop, house, hip-hop, electronica, deep house) and I like to go back and re-discover a lot of music i missed the first time round (60's psychedelia, 70's funk). Sometimes I think I'm stuck in 1991 as that seems to be the year all my favourite music was relased... maybe it's nostalgia?

In terms of new 'artists', there are very few that interest me, certainly what is considered pop music today has no appeal. Most of the artists I listen to have had careers spanning 20-30 years (or are dead). Any 'new' artists I like (Tame Impala, Hurts, C. Duncan) tend to be influenced by older artists that I like or make somewhat more 'traditional' songs.

I am in the collector‘s Mood: since 2016 I only buy new or used vinyl (except for a few exceptions (cds)). I discovered so much new music, That would have been overlooked, if I still would buy cds or stream. Collecting and listening is a (almost) „two-part adventure“ razz

ThePersian

Interesting question!

I work most of my waking time, usually at my desk, and I have Ludovico Einaudi's 7 Days Walking (all 7 days) on repeat streaming from Qobuz and playing through floorstanding speakers all day long. I work until 9pm most days and Ludovico Einaudi helps the mood and calm any stresses that work and the toil of the day brings.

On the days when I have the energy left to listen to music after putting the kids to bed I will listen to music via a Sony pmp and IEMs. All of my music will have been purchased on CD (or digital when there is no CD release) and then ripped to flac.

Whilst writing this I listened to Stop to Love and Give Me The Reason. Loud.

Even though I'm shattered at the end of most days, when I do listen to (rather than just hear) music I feel my soul has been nourished a little.

The time to find new music is seldom. But when someone suggests something I will check it out when I can, either on Qobuz or Spotify then if I like it I will buy it on CD.

These last few years I've listened to a lot of Chromeo. Without a shadow of a doubt my favourite band of the past decade. Closely followed by Ludovico Einaudi. Lol.

The Earth is but one country and mankind its citizens.
